"We had a wonderful experience with A Fresh Look. Fidelis is very professional (and a great guy). His quotes included a good break down of the work and were very competitive. He was great with scheduling the work and was very punctual. Fidelis's work is excellent and he also does an amazing job with dust and debris management. Walkway tarps were laid throughout our house to protect the floors and plastic was put up to contain the dust within the work areas. With out a doubt we would recommend A Fresh Look."

Small jobs welcome

"Curtis and his team were amazing, We had water damage from an overflowed sink that damaged floors, drywall, and a bathroom vanity. Curtis purchased all of the materials he needed and he and his team tiled our whole kitchen, replaced the kitchen ceiling drywall, tiled the 2nd floor bathroom, installed the new vanity, and installed new mirrors and a backsplash. It was a big job. They had to carry a 400 lb vanity upstairs. Curtis and his team were so nice and helpful and very patient with us. I strongly recommend CRM Trades Solutions for any home improvement or repair projects. I will definitely use them in the future."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

The short answer is yes, a sagging plaster ceiling is dangerous. Sagging plaster on a wall is something you should fix immediately, but it isn’t a major concern. If the same type of sagging occurs on a ceiling, however, you could be in danger of your ceiling falling in large chunks. When plaster sags, it loses its strength and ability to hold itself up. The bonds that hold it together are strong, though, so if a sagging area falls, it will take large pieces down with it.

You can put drywall mud over paint to even out the surface or entirely resurface it. Sand the surface with 280-grit sandpaper, vacuum the debris and dust with a shop vac, and clean it with a slightly damp cloth. Allow the surface to dry. Apply drywall primer, especially if you’re skim-coating an entire wall. Apply the right type of drywall mud over the surface and smooth it with a trowel. Allow the layer to cure fully, then sand it before applying another layer or painting it.

New plaster must be fully dry and cured before painting. The drying time for plaster ranges from 1 to 4 hours, but the curing process can take more than five days, depending on various factors, including humidity levels, temperature, the amount of plaster used, and airflow in the area. You should always apply primer before painting plaster.

In most cases, no, you won’t need a permit to replace drywall. If you’re changing the floorplan of your home by adding or removing walls during the drywall project, then you might need a permit, but replacement or repairs usually doesn’t require a permit. Your drywall professional should be able to confirm whether or not a permit is required for your project. If it is, it’s likely to add between $50 and $150 to your total cost. Keep in mind that you will need permits if you plan to install new electrical wiring or plumbing lines behind your new drywall.

Whether it’s better to screw or glue drywall depends on your specific budget and project timeline. Professional drywall installers are more likely to use screws and fasteners than adhesives, but it takes longer. But if you are DIYing your drywall installation, glue is a perfectly fine choice if you’re willing to pay extra for adhesive.
