"A Cut Above many other Contractors! We had needed brick pointing done on our home for a few years. We are also in the middle of a renovation project for our game room and that included the installation of a sliding glass door where a window was. The door install required that a steel lintel be moved up to accommodate the height of the new door. We were very fortunate that we called Michener Chimney and Masonry to come and have a look. They came out in a timely fashion and gave their estimate to us in just a few days. Once we agreed to get the work done, Jim and his team from Michener began the work quickly. They were professional and friendly and did a wonderful job on all of the aspects of the project. Communication with them was easy, clear and accurate. We would highly recommend anyone needing brick or masonry work to use Michener Chimney and Masonry. Thank you Jim for doing such an amazing job and keeping our renovation project on-time and with your quality craftsmanship!"

"I recommend Clarke and his masonry business without reservations. His crew led by Josh could not have done a better job repointing our (old) all brick house in Bellevue. This was a big job that took ~7 weeks to complete. The cost - given the size of the job - was reasonable and fair, and Clarke was very flexible with scheduling the work; he kept me up to date on the status of the project before the work started and during the job itself with at least weekly calls. I knew at all times where we stood. I would hire Clarke / Phillips Masonry for any other job involving brick work and anything else they do without any doubt."

Customers say: Quality work

"Experience was great! Rick contacted us immediately. He was very professional. And pleasant. Came out to assess the job within a day or so and informed us of cost, which was very reasonable. He put us on the schedule, arrived to point the bottom front brickwork on the house and did an EXCELLENT job! Would highly recommend their services! It has been difficult in the past to find someone to do this type of work. So thankful for Home Advisor, Angie, and Rick at Morowâ s Masonry and Restoration! Thank you Thank you Thank you!"

Small jobs welcome

"Mason came to my house ready to do the work and provide his credentials. He is very experienced and we negotiated a price and immediately went work on the second story of my house where the brick had fallen. Got the job and he did a great job. He had to get a ladder to reach the top of the brick column. Highly recommend Stone Mason if you are wanting masonry work done by a real professional. Charlie Prater"

"This is the second time I’ve used Advanced for my basement waterproofing needs and they were again fantastic. Work was done well and it was easy to schedule. They are low pressure so if you have a project and just need to get an opinion, reach out to them. Chris is great and very attentive and helpful. Both of my waterproofing jobs still cost less the the initial job from one of the big companies, so I was really pleased with their work and price. They did a nice job cleaning up (but concrete dust gets everywhere so I still have work to do). Highly recommend!!!! I also live in a township with strict permit codes and they knew to check and help with that process (the other company did not)."

"The crew removed the plantings and brick borders from the front and both sides of our house. This included two large bush stumps as well as a 50 year old rhododendren bush that was too close to the house. They graded all of the old and new topsoil away from the house, laid down landscape fabric, planted new colorful bushes, and mulched everything with layers of black mulch. They reused many of the existing bricks for a border along the walkway and the one side of the house. They hauled away all of the debris and old bricks that were not used."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Steep slopes and split-level designs create lateral soil pressure that makes structural repairs technically demanding. Older cinder block or rubble stone foundations require specialized repointing techniques and compatible mortar. Negative grading directs water toward your foundation, complicating any masonry work. Always check for utility line conflicts and homeowner association rules before starting exterior projects in Monroeville.

Helpful?

Prioritize foundation inspection and repointing to prevent basement water infiltration caused by heavy rainfall and hydrostatic pressure. Inspect older brick chimneys for damaged crowns and deteriorating mortar joints. Assess retaining walls for signs of winter frost heaving. Repair front steps and walkways damaged by road salt and freeze-thaw cycles. Tackling this masonry work early protects your Monroeville property.

Helpful?

Start by scheduling masonry work between May and October to avoid freezing temperatures that ruin fresh mortar. You must secure necessary permits for structural projects like retaining walls. Account for Pennsylvania frost lines by setting footings at least 36 inches deep. Plan for clay-heavy soil expansion and spring ground saturation, which delay below-grade foundation repairs.

Helpful?

Watch for spalling brick faces and white, chalky efflorescence, which indicate water absorption and freeze-thaw damage. Stair-step cracking, horizontal foundation cracks, and bowing retaining walls point to severe lateral soil pressure. Interior basement dampness or mismatched mortar colors mean previous masonry work failed. Address these structural warning signs immediately to protect your Monroeville home from further deterioration.

Helpful?

Completing masonry work provides immediate weatherproofing against wet spring seasons and stabilizes retaining walls before winter frost heaving begins. Long-term, proper mortar application ensures freeze-thaw resilience against harsh PA winters. Maintaining solid foundations and chimneys directly reduces basement water damage risks, controls soil erosion on hilly lots, and boosts your property value in a competitive real estate market.
