"Willis Washington of SL Contractors is a skilled craftsman. His finished Work is excellent and he pays attention to every detail. He is very intuitive and anticipates most any situation, and he can figure out a solution to anything. He takes real pride in his work and his efforts show. His abilities are many: cabinet installation, counter tops, hardwood and tile flooring, electrical and lighting, painting, trim. We couldn't be happier with our kitchen remodel. We would hire SL Contractors again to also do our bathrooms. I highly recommend SL Contractors."

Interior Design and Decorating questions, answered by experts

Part of the beauty of academia decor is that most textures and materials will feel right at home, provided they’re dark. Some common textures include natural wood, dark metals like iron, velvet, and leather. Incorporating these into your dark academia decor will make them look right at home. Glass is another option in some cases, so fill in gaps in your decor with small glass jars, or really lean on the gothic roots of dark academia with stained glass.

Designers optimize space, improve aesthetics, and recommend durable, high-quality materials.

Costs range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on project size and designer experience.

While finding a local interior designer whose portfolio you like and whose fees match your budget is important, they should always have appropriate qualifications. Some states require interior designers to be licensed, and most will have a degree in interior design and certification through the National Council for Interior Design Qualifications (NCIDQ). You can also consult our directory of interior designers to get started.

Establishing a whole-house color palette gives your home a sense of uniformity and makes your interior look more visually appealing. Overdoing a single color can make your home feel monotonous, while too many colors can create a sense of chaos and disorganization. When in doubt, choose a foundation color and then use complementary colors to accent.
