"I regret giving over $80k to this contractor. Jim, Chase and all others did shotty work in my home and now their work needs to be redone by a professional. Even after things stopped working I called them back and no one came out or contacted me to fix it. My window frames and baseboards were installed improperly as well as my electrical. My flooring is lifting and new stairs installed weren’t even nailed in properly, my husband nearly broke his hip on the stairs. I wish I could take it all back and never would’ve trust them."

"I called and was told the repair would cost $300, and that?s what I paid. He did try changing the price on arrival to $400 Same day: Service was completed and I left the technician the full payment?all agreed over the phone beforehand. Arrival: No call ahead?they arrived almost 4 hours past the timeframe I was given. Failure: After working a few times, the key stopped functioning about two weeks later due to the battery. I drive maybe four times a week. Follow?up: Upon reaching out again, I explained the problem?but when I challenged any implied fault or vacancy, his tone became dismissive and very unprofessional. He is one of the only locksmith around unless you find one on facebook marketplace. Not to many other option. He did send $25.00 back for a replacement of a key. "

Replacing your locks isn’t always a necessary option. You can usually save money by rekeying locks instead of replacing the hardware. You should consider rekeying the locks instead of replacing them in the following scenarios:

Yes, you should always change your locks after buying a house. Do so as soon as possible after you move in. Begin by checking the power source, typically a battery or wired connection. Ensure the battery is installed correctly, has sufficient charge, and isn't corroded. If it's a wired lock, examine the electrical connections to confirm they are secure and free from damage. Additionally, inspect the lock's programming or settings. Confirm that user codes or access credentials are programmed correctly and that any remote control devices are paired and functional.

There are different types of deadbolts. The most common type is a single-cylinder deadbolt, which you may recognize on your front door. This type of lock has a keyhole on the outside and a thumb turn on the inside. A double-cylinder deadbolt has two locking mechanisms and requires a key to engage on the inside as well as the outside. 

You may be able to get a broken key out of a lock by yourself, depending on the situation. If a portion of the key is still protruding from your lock, try lubricating the keyway and using pliers or even a bobby pin to pull the key out of the hole. If you have jigsaw blades handy, you can also try using those to grab onto the stuck key and pull it out. 

But, if neither option works or you can’t reach the key, your only option is to call a locksmith for help.
