Customers say: True professional

"The ETown Team are such a pleasure to work with! Very pleasant individuals and interactions with them are usually easygoing, an important aspect of business/client relationships which factors heavily into my overall rating. Their job is often thorough and they have no problems discussing and taking care of any issues that arise. I have already recommended this cleaning service to friends and neighbors and would continue to highly endorse them."

"Apparently, many carpet installers today are Mexican/Hispanic. The installer spoke fairly good English. His helper spoke none. Other than that, they did an excellent, very professional job. The helper was a go-for. He took out and removed the old carpet and runners, swept and vacuumed, as well as brought in the rolls of new carpet. The installer is probably one of he hardest workers I've ever seen. He worked his butt off and did a fabulous install. Wow. Very impressive!!!"

"Excellent service! When we lived in Maryland, I had used Stanley Steamers, but here in Pennsylvania, I decided to try this carpet cleaning business because it was on Angie's List with good reviews. Belles' did an amazing job on my carpets, which had never been cleaned since we had them installed four years ago. Our daughter and her now-2-year old lived with us for several years and the bedroom they slept in had so many spots on the carpet from the baby spilling things and generally making a mess. But Buddy at Belles Carpet Cleaning did such a good job that the carpet looks like new! I never thought this would be possible. See before and after photos below."

"I used World Flooring to install carpeting in our 3-bedrooms, living room, and basement. Daniel did an excellent job in explaining and showing us the carpet options available to us. I took the time to visit his retail store in Harrisburg to get a better visual of the carpeting options available. There is a myriad of carpeting colors and grades to choose from. He was awesome to work with. He was very patient, professional and knowledgeable. The pricing was very competitive as well. The installation was subcontracted to Brian and Nick who have over 30 years of carpet installation experience. They were on time, and got to work immediately and performed quality work. They did a good job of cleaning up after themselves as well. If you're in the market to have new carpeting installed in your home, I would highly recommend contacting Dan at World Flooring to at least get a price estimate and his suggestions."

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

If the installer is unwilling to fix the problems and you’re not interested in seeking remediation, you could hide a visually unpleasant floor. This will only work if the floor is structurally sound and the only issue you have is the way it looks. The easiest way to do this is to use large area rugs. You can also paint the floor, although that’s a labor-intensive job if you want to go the DIY route.

Depending on carpet type and labor, costs range from $3 to $12 per square foot.

Carpeting has a few benefits on stairs in addition to being a cost-effective floor covering. It absorbs sound, dampening footsteps. It also provides additional traction, which is especially important if you install linoleum floors, epoxy flooring, or any other floor covering that can become slippery if you’re wearing socks. Therefore, carpets can help prevent slips.

While it is possible to install carpet yourself, it is a challenging DIY project that requires precise measurement, proper cutting skills, and knowledge of correct installation techniques. The process involves multiple steps, including removing old flooring, installing underlayment and tack strips, and stretching the carpet to prevent wrinkles, which can take several days to complete.

Before starting, consider these factors:

  • Warranty: Many manufacturers' warranties are voided if the carpet is not installed by a professional.

  • Tools: You will need to buy or rent specialized equipment like a knee kicker, carpet stretcher, and seam roller.

  • Complexity: DIY installation is most suitable for simple, straightforward rooms. Projects involving stairs or floor vents are significantly more difficult.

  • Cost: While you can save on labor, the cost of tools plus the risk of expensive mistakes—which may require re-installation—can make hiring a professional more cost-effective in the long run.

Given the potential for errors, voided warranties, and the need for special tools, hiring a local carpet installer is often recommended to ensure the job is done correctly and safely.

If the stairs are already covered in carpet, you will need to remove the old carpet and possibly the carpet pad. Any damage to the stairs like cracks, loose boards, or creaky treads may also need to be repaired. You may also want to sand and refinish or paint wood stairs before installing a carpet runner.
