"We requested quotes from contractors for the replacement of our home's original asphalt roof (three tab standard). Bachmans was very competitive. We appreciated their approach to inspection of the roof, discussion of details in the roof line and practices and features they use to provide a quality roof replacement. Chris Jameson worked with us on a second bid when we decided we wanted a different shingle than first proposed. Bachman's installs the major manufacturers and is certified as a quality installer for CertainTeed and GAF (perhaps others). We selected a CertainTeed Landmark Pro product with extended warranty. They use best practices such as site-fabricated soldered copper flashing. They gave us a couple days notice of the install date and arrived at 7AM and departed by around 5 PM. They did a fine job protecting foundation plantings and the house during construction and a very good job cleaning up (we have had roofs done on three houses and they did probably the best job in picking up). We had a small issue regarding the manufacturer of the ice and water shield underlayment material - Bachman's installed a non-CertainTeed product due to availability issues. Chris and his management contacted CertainTeed during the day of installation to provide us email documentation that the alternate product was acceptable. The chimney painting was with a high quality Sherwin Williams product - they came to clean it one day and back to paint the next. All the work looks good and after a couple rainstorms appears to be solid, as expected. As noted, we would consider using Bachman for other work based on this experience."

"Keystone Roof solutions was a lifesaver, while everybody else came out with estimates that were completely high unrealistic. Keystone offered a very affordable option for our roof replacement needs. They were also very helpful , doing extra work for a very reasonable price. They replaced our roof in a matter of 3 days and kept us posted with every single detail during the process. Don't go Anywhere else."

"Clear understanding of what was needed and what we wanted done.. Professional crew did a great job. No hard sell, no pressure, good price. These guys understand the local market and know their stuff. You will not regret hiring them. They had the materials we wanted, in the color we wanted and since our roof was already leaking they got to it in just a couple of days. That is real service."

Customers say: True professional

"Edgar has done everything from tearing down and rebuilding brick stoop walls and topping with new cement toppers, repointing brickwork on the main house to repairing a very high chimney on a terra cotta roof. He also followed us to our new home in a different county and did timely repairs and topped our stone chimney and acid washed the stone fireplace inside. He is very professional and polite, does great work at a fair price."

"Erie Homes was great. Ty and Chris shared the information about roofs in a clear and precise way. I love the high quality of the roofing materials and the standards they hold their workers to when placing the roof. Mike called me each step of the way, so I was prepared when the roofing supplies showed up. I even got calls after the beautiful roof was done. Amazing job!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Many insurance policies will not cover a roof with two layers of shingles. An additional layer of shingles increases the risk of various kinds of damage, and insurers typically won’t pay claims on a roof with an overlay. Adding a layer of shingles may even jeopardize your insurance coverage entirely, so check your policy to ensure you stay within coverage guidelines.

Yes, but it won't be as effective as installing it as part of a new roof because it won't be as water-resistant. However, a drip edge installed after the fact is better than no drip edge at all.

Walking on any roofing material is dangerous, so you should avoid it if you can, but if the need arises, you should know that you can walk on a concrete tile roof without damaging it. Try to step on the bottom portions of the tile that are supported by the lower layer, and distribute your weight evenly across both feet and hands, if possible.

Yes, you should seal and cap an unused chimney to protect it from damage. Sealing the structure helps prevent moisture damage, which can lead to issues like cracks, spalling, efflorescence, and damaged mortar joints. Capping the chimney is also crucial to prevent blockages, damage from invasive critters, and downdrafts, while still allowing for proper air ventilation to manage moisture. For the best results, consult a chimney professional to select the right type of chimney or flue cap for your home. It's also wise to continue with annual chimney inspections to maintain the structure's integrity.

Thatched roofs last for between 30 and 50 years in most cases, which is longer than most asphalt roofs. However, getting that life span from your thatched roof requires more maintenance than you’d need for most other materials, including fireproofing, brushing, cleaning, and rethatching as the material gets worn down. You’ll also need routine inspections to ensure you’re not at risk of leaks.
