Both paint and wallpaper can work in a bathroom, provided you choose high-quality products in either category. Washable vinyl wallpapers can stand up to bathroom humidity without peeling, as can semi-gloss or gloss paint finishes. In many cases, you can sleep in a room painted with low-VOC paint on the same day you painted it. You’ll want to give it at least 10 hours to allow any lingering chemicals to dissipate. However, it can still have an odor for about a day after painting, so you may want to add extra ventilation or adjust your sleeping arrangements if you’re particularly sensitive. 

No-VOC paint is generally odorless and won’t emit toxic chemicals, so it’s even safer and more comfortable to sleep near after a fresh paint job.

Soft and light colors are more common in bathrooms than dark colors, partially because they create a larger sense of space. Clean eggshell paint walls or other neutrals like beige and gray work. Lighter shades of blue and green are also popular bathroom colors. If you want to incorporate dark, bold colors, use them as accents in small places rather than on the entire bathroom.

A roller makes an excellent paint tool for brick. Using a roller can ensure the entire surface area gets painted evenly. If you choose a roller for painting brick, go for a thicker option, at least a half-inch. The key to using a roller while painting brick is making sure paint gets into the various crevices for even coverage.

Use at least two coats of paint for exteriors for better coverage and added durability. When painting lighter colors over darker colors, a third coat of paint may be necessary to achieve full coverage of your home’s exterior. A durable paint specifically designed for the material of your home’s exterior will last the longest.
