"I called and the next day the sales rep came out to our building with samples to pick from and she was very informative about the products and professional. I had to call back in because i did not count the right number of windows to be done. And again the sales rep was accommodating and was able to add the windows 3 days before installing. Also was able to schedule a sunday Installation when the lab was closed. The installer was here early, very courteous , professional and efficient. I was able to leave him to do his work so i could get my tasks done also. Exceptional service"

"David arrived at the scheduled time and reviewed the work needed. Originally, I thought the window would have to be removed to correct the direction water drained on the sill, but he was able to remove the sill and install the trim kit without removing the window. He caulked the window and shower area except for where the shower wall meets the tub. David stated that since I intended to have the tub refinished, caulking this are now would interfere with the refinishing and the refinisher would caulk this area as part of that job. Davie was able to locate the stud for the grab bar, which the prior company had not marked and I had trouble locating. This provided a much more secure installation than using the mounting hardware for hollow walls, which I originally thought we needed. He also installed the wall cabinet and toilet paper holder in the locations I wanted, locating the stud for a stronger installation. I emphasize finding the studs because I have plaster walls and the studs can be difficult to locate. Taking the time and trouble to locate them rather than using hollow wall anchors showed attention to detail and workmanship that is the difference between quality installation and merely doing the minimum to get done. He then sealed the floor tile last. It all looks good and functions well."

Small jobs welcome

"This is my second time using TedWen and couldnâ t be more pleased to have a professional that I can trust. I had an exterior door installed and made fit into what would have been for a custom fit door. TedWen improvised and problem solved on the spot to safe me a significant amount of money not having to buy a custom size door. This was a tricky install that was done perfectly. I couldnâ t be happier with with the finished product."

Windows questions, answered by experts

It is generally recommended to remove window screens for the winter, especially in climates with heavy snow, freezing rain, or frigid temperatures. Removing them helps prevent damage to the screen mesh and frames that can be caused by ice and moisture buildup between the screen and the window. Taking out the screens also allows more natural light and warmth into your home during shorter winter days and makes it easier to clean your windows thoroughly. In warmer climates where harsh weather is not a concern, the decision is more about personal preference; some homeowners prefer the clearer view, while others leave them in for convenience.

Visibility through tinted house windows or privacy film depends on the lighting. During the day, the tint or film typically prevents people from seeing inside. However, at night, if you have lights on inside your home, the interior will be brighter than the outside, which allows people to see in. You can choose from various shades of privacy film, from lighter to darker, to optimize the level of privacy you want.

Casement windows can either be left or right opening, and every window manufacturer makes both so that you can choose which works best for your space. In many cases, you’ll want one left-opening and one right-opening casement window to sit on either side of a picture window or to act as the side panels in a bay window. Just remember that the direction is described from the curb. An FCL (from the curb left) hinges out to the left if you’re looking at the exterior of your home, and an FCR (from the curb right) hinges out to the right.

Yes, it is generally better and more cost-effective to replace all your windows at once. Contractors often lower the per-window labor and material costs for larger projects, saving you money in the long run. Installers may also quote a flat rate for overhead, making multiple small jobs more expensive than one large one.

Replacing all windows simultaneously offers other advantages:

  • Aesthetics and Home Value: It creates a cohesive style and uniform energy efficiency, which is appealing to potential home buyers.

  • Efficiency: The entire replacement process, which can take several weeks, is completed in a single, more efficient project.

However, replacing all windows requires a significant upfront investment. While you can replace just a few windows, experts recommend replacing at least five to eight at a time to avoid high overhead costs. An exception is when a single window is damaged; in that case, it can be replaced on its own.

Yes, you can absolutely put a screen on a casement window, and most casement windows come with screens. Unlike with a double-hung, single-hung, or sliding window, the screen in a casement window sits on the inside of the window so that the sash can freely open outward. Screens are especially important for casement windows because the large window opening the window provides leaves your home more open to bugs and outside debris than most other types of operable windows.
