"They did a bad Job and then issued a Bad Check! Mr. Rooter installed a new Well Water Pump incorrectly at my home, it was actually installed 15 feet short of the well and burnt out within 3 months due to the incorrect installation. After almost two months of back and forth, no running water and the involvement of another company to fix their mistake, they finally recently admitted to their mistake and issued a refund in the form of a check. That check then proceeded to BOUNCE due to "Insufficient Funds" now costing me additional bank fees. It has now been two days with no response to calls and emails. Do not do business with this company. Sorry I had to give one star just to post."

"DISGUSTED, NOT PLEASED, UNHAPPY, UNSATISFIED AND DISSAPPOINTED! These words barely describe our feelings towards Slagel Roofing Company. We would never recommend this company to anyone. Here are the facts: 1. In July 2015 my 89 year old father-in-law contracted with them to replace the roof on his home in Charleroi, PA. He eventually paid them $16,500. 2. The work was completed on July 31, 2015. We have records of two Payments. 3. NOAA rainfall records show that there was no rainfall for the month of August in 2015. 4. It did rain on September 10, 2015 ( 41 days after the installation). At that time Dad contacted them about water leaking into his dining room, causing extensive damage to the plasterd ceiling and walls. 5. Again on September 28, 2015 Dad had to recontact them about additional leaks in his study, kitchen, foyer, family room and living room. 6. Dad kept detailed hand written notes recording his efforts to get Slagel Roofing Company to fix the leaks and repair the interior damage. 7. Slagel roofing never fixed the water damage in the interior of the house. To make matters worse Dad died in June of 2020, and now Mom is stuck. 8. Meanwhile, We have had two professional roofers inspect the roof and both have opined the work around the dormers needs to be re-done."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Aside from needing HVAC repair, there are times when you may need to replace your unit. HVAC replacement costs $5,000 to $12,500. Here are some telltale signs that your HVAC unit is going bad:

  • Your unit is 10 years or older.

  • Your home is very humid.

  • The unit keeps cycling without producing cool air.

  • You need to repair the unit frequently.

You should know the main components of an air conditioner: the condenser coils, evaporator coils, drip pan, AC filter, ducts, and refrigerant. Each part plays a key role in the performance and safety of your AC system. When tracking the source of AC issues or odors, it helps to know where to look. Your outdoor unit houses your condenser coils, fan, and compressor. Your indoor unit houses your evaporator coils, drain lines, and filter, and it connects to your ductwork.

HVAC systems should be serviced annually, no matter which type of system you have. This service visit should include an inspection, cleaning, and regular maintenance tasks, like flushing the boiler. The best time to do this varies on the system. For heating-based systems, call in a technician sometime during the fall. For air conditioners, go for the spring. Basically, schedule the service call before you plan on amping up HVAC system usage for the season.

Your AC might not cool after a power outage because of a tripped circuit breaker, blown fuse, or damage to the compressor or capacitor. If you notice your AC not working after a power outage, in most cases, the breaker has tripped or the system has built-in brownout and blackout protection. Reboot the AC by turning it off at the thermostat, resetting the circuit breaker, and waiting 30 minutes to turn the AC on again.

There are several common types of HVAC systems that you may have, including split systems, hybrid HVAC, duct-free systems, packaged heating and air, geothermal heating, or even portable units for heating or cooling. If you aren’t sure which type is in your home or are looking to install something different, you should consult an HVAC pro to determine which option is right for your heating and cooling needs.
