"Tom was in a word: Phenomenal. I scheduled an Inspection and Radon Test on HomeAdvisor. Tom reached out within minutes of my scheduling the appointment. He was extremely thorough yet timely and gave simple suggestions. The last thing he sought to do was to nickel and dime us- we truly appreciated that. He was very personable and kind. His prices we the best in the area (we shopped around) and the quality of his work speaks for itself. We've favorited him and will be giving him a ring for our next home."

"Hired Terry for a home inspection. I'm buying a home that i know needs a little tlc. I wanted the peace of mind that I'm not getting into something over my head. Terry was very professional. He arrived on time and did a thorough inspection. He found some things I hadn't seen on my 2 previous walk-thrus. He had the full report completed within 2 days. It's a very detailed report. All in all I would definitely recommend Roof 2 Basement to anyone who needs a thorough inspector! I see it as money well spent..now I know exactly what I'm getting into!"

"Tom was wonderful and extremely thorough! He explained everything as he went along and I left feeling like I really knew the ins and outs of the property. He was extremely personable and very professional. He called to schedule and follow up prior to the date of the inspection. I felt confident in him during the entire process. "If you’re looking to get any type of inspection or home services then look no further. I recently became a customer of Justin Ake after trying to get my soon to be home inspected. Rick was dispatched to the property and went above and beyond, both explaining the inspection process and showing me key points in the houses plumping and drainage systems. As well as providing information on other tests and services the company performs. I don’t normally write reviews, but I have to say this is one business that takes pride in their trade."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

A homeowner can install a radon mitigation system on their own. But it’s a challenging DIY that requires a lot of knowledge about radon mitigation as well as familiarity with local regulations. You do not want to risk an improper installation that leaves the system unable to detect radon or gives it a shortened life span. Relying on a professional is the surest way to guarantee a successful installation.

The average radon mitigation system uses about 876 kWh of electricity per year, although the exact amount of electricity used will vary depending on the size of the radon fan. Once the system is installed, the annual increase to your energy bill could range from $30 to $300 per year, again depending on the size of the fan.

Your radon mitigation system may be loud because it’s time to replace it. Any sounds are usually from the inline fan that helps create the vacuum and resulting airflow. If you hear a new, loud mechanical or humming noise from your radon fan, it might be time to replace it. Most fans used in radon mitigation systems last up to 10 years, but may need to be replaced sooner.

You'll need to test your home for radon after installing the mitigation system, then again every two years. If radon remains elevated, contact a licensed radon professional, either the contractor who installed the system or a different one, and have them evaluate the system. They may need to make some changes to improve its effectiveness and performance.

Installing a mitigation system reduces radon levels, which can cause lung cancer, providing peace of mind and long-term health benefits. It can also increase your home’s value, as many buyers prefer properties with radon safety measures in place. The investment is relatively low compared to the potential health risks associated with prolonged radon exposure.
