"Project took a little longer than expected with making the forms for the cement, as the man doing the work didn't understand exactly how Mark Pawling wanted it done. Mark was at a different job site and not available. However, once Mark was here things went much better. Overall he and his crew did an excellent job, and made sure we were happy with the job. The job started on Monday and was completed to our complete satisfaction the following week on Tuesday. I felt Mark really listened to us and did the work the way we wanted it done."

"They did not come the first day we had scheduled due to icy weather conditions which was totally acceptable. I mention this because I was pleased with how quickly they were able to reschedule. Mr. Shelley knew we were eager to advance our project, and as I mentioned before, the labor we asked them to perform was not necessarily the service they commonly provide. The crew came right on time, came in, were courteous to use the outside entrance to the basement, and finished the job in 2 hours. They did exactly what was asked, when it was asked, and for a very reasonable price. I did not utilize their waterproofing services, because our home already had one in place when we purchased it, but the gentlemen looked at what was already existing and answered some of our questions about it. They seemed very knowledgeable and were very nice."

Concrete Resurfacing questions, answered by experts

Concrete can crack from general wear, improper installation, or in response to uneven support from the soil underneath. Small, thin cracks on the surface of aging concrete are usually a result of normal wear and tear, while cracks on new concrete more likely indicate a problem with installation. Larger cracks or uneven steps can signify a much more severe issue. A concrete contractor should be able to diagnose the cause and repair concrete cracks for you.

The repair method for a damaged concrete patio depends on the type of damage. For surface cracks, a concrete crack filler is a quick and simple fix. For larger cracks or uneven slabs, you may need to hire a professional to pump a cementitious material under the sunken portion to lift it back into place. For heavy spalling and other surface damage, resurfacing may be the best and most affordable option. This includes pouring a new layer of concrete over the old layer.

For handy homeowners, concrete projects are DIYable, and DIYing is a good way to save on the cost of a concrete slab, walkway, or other concrete work. If you’re completing a larger project or one that’s subject to building codes, you should always hire a professional to ensure the job is done safely and correctly.

How often you should resurface your pool deck depends on its material and condition. Concrete pool decks should be resurfaced every two to five years. Decks that are exposed to harsh heat and UV light may need to be sealed more often than ones that are mostly shaded.

Costs depend on the extent, the material choice, labor, and any decorative finishes requested.
