"We hired S. DiFatta Mason Contractor & Sons in April 2016 to repair our chimney. We were so impressed that in July 2016, we asked him to him to repair the cracks and other issues that we were concerned about on the stucco exterior of our home. Sal has a sharp eye, is very knowledgeable and can patiently explain how he will do the job and why certain repairs are needed. Then most importantly, his company does the work in a very professional manner. They are a family of craftsmen who take great pride their work. In addition, they are enthusiastic, prompt, and leave the worksite clean at the end of each day. This company is everything you could hope for when having work done on your home. We highly recommend them."

"Not only are Simmers and Sons experts Masons they are accomplished artists as well. They work they performed was the highest quality. They take great pride in their work and see to the finest of details. From the very beginning of the project to the very end they were in constant communication as to the progress of the project. We actually went to the quarry to pick out the Bluestone for our patio with them which was a nice feature. They also spent time with us after the project was done to explain how to take care of our investment. They also keep in contact with us after the project was done to make sure their work is up to our standards. This was a very pleasant customer experience and would hire them again for any other masonry work we would need to have done."

Stucco questions, answered by experts

Stucco applied over brick can last 30 to 50 years or more when correctly applied and properly maintained. Stucco’s lifespan can be shortened by improper application, incorrectly mixed material, lack of preparation before application, and lack of maintenance. To get the most life out of your stucco siding, keep up with maintenance and repair any damage as soon as you discover it.

Stucco is durable, energy-efficient, and low-maintenance, making it a popular choice for exterior finishes.

Choosing between traditional and synthetic stucco depends on your specific needs, budget, and climate. Both options are durable, but synthetic stucco includes an extra layer that makes it more resistant to cracking and a better choice for climates with extreme weather. In hot, dry climates with less rainfall, traditional stucco is a suitable and more affordable option that is less likely to trap moisture. Synthetic stucco also offers more color options and requires less maintenance.

The average cost to repair stucco is about $1,600, with projects ranging from $250 for minor fixes to $6,700 for extensive work. The price is often calculated per square foot, typically costing between $60 and $120. Some professionals may charge an hourly rate of $40 to $50. The final cost depends on the extent of the damage, the type of stucco, your home's location, and whether there is underlying damage that also needs to be addressed.

Costs for specific repairs vary:

  • Cracks: $8–$20 per square foot

  • Holes: $250–$450 per hole

  • Water damage: $30–$50 per square foot

  • Chimney repair: $60–$120 per square foot

  • Recoating: $4–$5 per square foot

While you may be able to patch small cracks yourself, it is recommended to call a professional for major repairs to ensure the job is done correctly.

Tools include trowels, floats, and patching compounds. Professionals use these for precise and durable repairs.
