Thompson Family Painting and Remodeling was born some 30 + years ago in Augusta Georgia when I began painting at Medical College of Georgia. I quickly found out that this was not just something I enjoyed, but something I excelled at. I was taught from a very early age to always do my best at whatever I did and never to walk away from a job until it was done right. And this is the philosophy I have followed throughout my career. I moved from Augusta to Tulsa to Los Angeles to Redding California. Always striving to refine my skills and take them a step further. It was in Tulsa that I began remodeling homes and doing room additions. After moving here to Pennsylvania I got the opportunity to work on the magnificent and historic Colerain Mansion in Spruce Creek. A massive home built in 1790 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of the Interior. It is currently owned by celebrated author Dorothy Gray (Gurney). And it was at the insistence of Mrs. Gurney that I started Thompson Family Painting Company. And it is my solemn vow to provide the absolute best quality at the best price and leave you more than satisfied. If you recently splashed paint on the wrong area of a wooden object, remove it with a solvent or caustic paint stripper. Some paint that has yet to dry may be removable by hand with coarse sandpaper or a plastic scraper. Another trick for removing dried-on paint is rubbing a dab of nail polish remover on the paint to remove it, but avoid touching the bare wood surface.

Vinegar won’t strip the wood stain from your wood, but it can help remove a different type of stain. If you’re dealing with food stains or trying to remove water rings on your wood, you can use a little olive oil and vinegar (mixed equally) to remove those stains without stripping your actual wood stain. Just rub the solution in the direction of the wood grain, let it sit, and then wipe it away with a damp towel.

If you spill wood refinishing oil, wipe up the liquid quickly without spreading the stain and then use soap and water or a stain remover to get rid of the spot. Since the product is oil based, using a detergent like dish soap or a thinner like mineral spirits will help take out the stain. You may need to repeat this process multiple times to remove the stain.

Chalk paint can be applied without sanding first. Keep in mind that while there are a lot of chalk paint color options available, there aren’t as many choices as latex or oil-based paint.

You can also learn how to paint furniture without sanding using a liquid deglosser, sometimes referred to as liquid sandpaper. This can remove any old paint, gloss, or varnish, without the need to manually sand. Apply the deglosser using a cloth, then wait for the chemical to penetrate through the surface. Once it soaks through, you should be able to wipe away the residue with a towel. 

Refinishing reduces landfill waste, minimizes resource extraction impacts, and uses fewer raw materials than new installations.
