"Find a honest, legitimate, reliable , professional that will show up on time all the time is practically looking for the impossible until finding Tom from Impressins Landscaping. I was given his cell phone number and a very strong recommendation and I have to say I was most impressed with the immediate response to my call and the ontime follow up for a face to face meeting to walk through and review exactly what needed to be done on our property. The price quoted was the price that was honored for the season. If there was bad weather I was called and notified with an estimated time to get the work down and the property maintained. I cannot say enough about Tom and Impressions Landscaping. Call him and I know you will be most impressed of how hard a worker he is and his commitment to customer satisfaction. Once you hire him you will have peace of mind when it comes to your Landscaping needs. Tom and Impressions Landscaping will definitely make a lasting positive Impression and business relationship with you."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

While there are over 400,000 different flowering plants worldwide, there are five main types of flowers. These flower types are based on their lifecycles, giving each type a unique personality. These types are:

  • Annuals, which complete their entire life cycle within a single growing season.

  • Perennials, which the tops die off in the winter but regrow in spring.

  • Biennials, which complete their entire life cycle within two years.

  • Hybrids, which exhibit either annual or perennial behaviors depending on location

  • Flowering shrubs, which are small to medium-sized perennial woody plants, such as shrubs or evergreens.

Finding a reputable greenhouse or nursery should start online, where you can read through customer reviews to gauge the quality of the plants sold and the customer experience. Look out for customers complaining about plants dying shortly after purchase, and try to choose a greenhouse known for hiring employees who are able to explain how to care for the plants you purchase. It’s also a good idea to head to a few greenhouses to see the selection they offer and make sure they carry the plants or trees you’re looking for.

Many ways to landscape a steep slope on a budget exist. Avoiding expensive retaining wall construction is the first step. Consider creating a rocky slope with boulders or large stones, or think about planting perennials that return every year with a single investment. Transplanting small trees from elsewhere on your property is also possible and can help to stabilize steep slopes without purchasing new ones.

Surface-level tree roots might only pose a small threat, such as being a tripping hazard or obstacle when you mow your lawn. But if mature tree roots start growing in the direction of your home’s foundation or plumbing system, it could be a real problem. Cutting small tree roots out before they grow too large can keep your home safe without removing the whole tree.

It depends. Smaller, younger trees take longer to mature, but they're more resilient, their roots don't get as damaged during transplanting, and they recover faster. Plus, they're much more affordable to plant, and it's possible to DIY the planting.

On the other hand, mature trees produce fruit faster and provide more shade and privacy immediately. Ideally, a small or medium tree is the better choice if you can wait a few years for it to mature. But if you need immediate maturity, a larger tree is the only option.
