"They trimmed one large tree and dropped another one when they said they would at the price they quoted me which was a very competitive price. They have skill, equipment, and care to get the job done. I'll be sure to call Bobby when I need more tree work done."

"I hired Hive Mind Enterprises/HME Tree Fellers to remove twenty-three pine trees planted by my father many years ago. The job was much bigger than my brother or I estimated, both in the height of the trees and the width of the trees. HME Tree Fellers were open, honest, and good-natured about this mistake, and worked hard to accommodate not only me, but also my 91 year old mother who also lives on the property. They worked professionally and quickly, getting what should have been a much longer job done in much less time than I expected."

"I had a very large Water Birch on the side of my house that had 2 very large trunks. One of the trunks led to large branches hanging over half of my house, the other leaned out and and dangerously hung over a good portion of my neighbor's house. Express Tree Service gave me an estimate that was very fair and knocked a couple hundred off if I scheduled in the next week. I was ready and we set May 24th as our date (I have had many home projects done and am just now finding time to do some reviews). They showed up on time with a very efficient crew led by Byron. Byron took the time to make sure each cut was safe and done correctly. They could not have done a better job. The tree was right beside my fence and between 2 houses so you can imagine the planning that had to be done on site to get this large tree down. They all worked very hard and had the tree down and loaded into their truck by early afternoon. They cleaned up extremely well and actually left the area around the tree in better shape than it was before they came. Do yourself a favor, if you are planning a tree removal, do not select a tree company until you have had Express Tree Service at least come out and look at what you need done and give you an estimate."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Cutting down a tree next to power lines is never a DIY job, and it’s a good idea to contact your utility company first. In most cases, the utility company will need to take care of any tree problems within 10 to 15 feet of power lines. If you want to remove the tree for aesthetic reasons, hire a pro to do the job. Trying to cut trees near power lines yourself can create many safety hazards, and you could be liable if you inadvertently cause damage to electrical equipment.

If a disease has attacked and destroyed the roots, then the tree may fall over as soon as it has died or while part of it is still alive. Trees that die with their roots left in place tend to stay standing for much longer, but those roots will decay eventually, allowing gravity to do the rest.

After a big storm, you may not be sure if a tree was struck or not. Look for the telltale long scars, like strips or gouges in the bark of the tree, running in sometimes jagged lines down the length of the trunk. These scars will often show vulnerable living wood inside the tree. It’s also common to see scorched or wilted leaves on the side or top of the tree where lightning struck.

The safest way to cut down a tree is to make sure you’re completely prepared and have done all the necessary safety checks, including double-checking your equipment is in good working order, you have plenty of clearance to fell the tree, you’re wearing all the safety gear, and you have a partner to help you (who should also be wearing safety gear).

Not all evergreen conifers need to be pruned, but some do. Pruning pine trees is not necessary, but you can do so during June and July if you wish. On the other hand, spruce, firs, and junipers do need to be pruned from late winter to early spring.
