The biggest sign that your flange leaks is if you notice water at the base of the toilet. The cause is likely due to a poor flange installation, so you might have issues with loose bolts, an uneven flange, or a cracked plastic flange. Add a deteriorating wax seal to this, and you have a recipe for disaster. The best solution is to shut off the water valve, replace the toilet flange, and seal it with a new wax ring.

If your pipes are newly installed, or you recently had plumbing work done, it's normal to have some air in the pipes, which will likely work its way out naturally after using the plumbing a few times. But if you continually hear banging or gurgling due to air bubbles, you might have an air leak, which is best addressed by a plumber. 

You shouldn’t shower while a sump pump isn’t working. Although household wastewater isn’t supposed to go into the sump pit, it’s best to wait to shower until your sump pump is running properly and able to move excess water out of the basement.
