They don’t pay their subs which is coming back on us now. They won't respond to any communications. A lien has now been filed on the project because of their lack of payment. Shocked at their ineptitude. Very friendly people, but they should not be construction business owners."

"We had a technician come out to replace a part on our furnace. We asked him the price on the part before he replaced it. He went out to his truck and came back in with the box and said the part was $10. It took him one hour to replace the part. He spent another half hour trying to sell us on a heat pump. We received a bill with a total amount of $250 - no break down whatsoever. When we called we learned that we were being charged, 2 hours service time and $58 for the part. We disputed the charges and were told that either we pay the entire bill or we'll be sent to collections. They refused to send us an itemized bill. We were sent to collections the next day. We will be reporting this business to the BBB and will see them in small claims court. Make sure to look up reviews on other sites regarding this company. They have a history of unethical business practices. Use ANY other company - this place is fraudulent!"

We have been very happy with the performance and lack of blower noise for the furnace, but it is difficult to find a company that still handles them. "I purchased a dishwasher and an above-range microwave from Costco, both within a few months of each other. (Rats chewed up my former dishwasher's wiring and ruined the whole unit.) On both of these installations, my experience with A-1 was nothing but very positive. These guys really know their way around kitchen appliances! They had some issues with removing the old microwave, but Cole figured out a workaround and managed to get the thing out. Our only real issue has been with Costco, because the store doesn't bother checking with A-1 before setting a delivery date. Then A-1 has to change the date because they're backed up. That glitch is all on Costco, not A-1. We've had many contractors and installers in our home, but A-1 is the best! You can count on them to work quickly, efficiently, and carefully. They're very courteous, too. God bless A-1 Installations! (I wasn't compensated for this review, by the way.)"

In North America, pipe measurements are listed as the nominal pipe size (NPS). This measurement refers to the outside diameter. As an example, a 1/2-inch copper pipe has an outside diameter of 5/8 of an inch. If a hardware store lists a pipe as having a 2 NPS, it means that all the pipes with this measurement have a 2 ⅜-inch outside diameter, regardless of wall thickness and inside diameter.

Call 811 to locate and mark the gas lines at least three days before digging. In many areas, you can dig within 18 inches of the lines, though in some locations, the distance may be further. Check local regulations, as you may need a utility company representative onsite when digging. Document your calls to 811 and precautions taken to avoid gas lines. A homeowner can be held liable for hitting a gas line in some cases, but contacting the proper authorities and following all guidelines can offer protection.

When hiring a plumber to install or repair gas pipes, consider asking them the following questions: 

  • Do you have insurance and a professional license to do the job? 

  • How long will the project take to complete? 

  • Will I need to hire additional professionals for excavation or landscaping? 

  • Do you have references from previous clients? 

  • Do you belong to any relevant trade associations? 

No, fixing or patching a hole in a gas line may not seal it completely. A patch should be a temporary solution because the damaged area will be weaker than the rest of the pipe, increasing the likelihood of future leaks.
