They had been notified of which parts were to be painted and which parts not painted. Since they weren't masked, those elements got paint on them as a result of overspray when the contractor sprayed the body of the house, and had to be sanded by the homeowner. The trim was masked very poorly in places, and the contractor had to re-prime and paint the trim white after painting the body of the house in a dark color.
Lead Paint mishandling: This contractor was selected in part (over a less-expensive bid) because they were licensed to dispose of lead paint. The contractor seemed unaware and initially denied that lead paint was present on the house, even though the homeowner had an independent consultant test for lead paint who found some evident, and the painters had been notified of such. The homeowner notified the contractor that there were 5 places on the house where lead paint was present. The contractor revealed at that time that they had only tested ONE window frame at the front and the body of the house for lead, despite that many of the door and window frames were obviously painted at different times in the home's age. The independent consultant tested EVERY window and door, because they were all painted at different times. For the safety of Hanson's crew, the homeowner asked if they were taking lead paint bearing doors, window frames, and shutters off the house and painting them at a separate location, or painting onsite and collecting lead paint chips. Hanson Co. then claimed there WAS no lead paint present, which was patently false. Even after being notified of the presence of lead paint on a pair of shutters, Hanson failed to scrape and collect the shutters, and only painted the front sides, not even bothering to CLEAN the back sides. They then asked the homeowner to remount the shutters themselves. Paint flakes: The painters left many paint flakes on the ground, which precipitated a home loan appraiser having to make a return trip after paint flakes were cleaned up. Improper cleanup: The painters took off house numbers, shutters, and other miscellaneous decor from the exterior of the house which they never offered to put back up. The area where they staged work materials was left disorganized and dirty. When they were finally "finished," the homeowner spent many hours cleaning up after them, because many items that were removed from or moved away from the house were not put back as they were found. Breakage: Some yard decorations were broken by the painters. While this is a minor problem, they didn't notify home owner of breakage, offer to replace or repair, or even give a simple apology. Contract details: Although painters' contract included the house and all trim, many pieces, such as decorative porch railings, a heat-pump cover, and the back of shutters were never painted. Homeowner had to paint these pieces herself. Security: When painting, on several occasions the painters propped doors/windows open to allow frames and doors/window sashes to dry, worked from 7 am to 1 pm, and then left without notifying homeowner or real estate agent that house was unlocked and open. I was called in the morning and told that sears had overbooked their installers, and needed to install hers in the morning. I had to rearrange my day to accommodate this. When installers arrived they had forgotten tools, so had to go back and get them. About a week and a half after the washer/dryer was installed my mother-in-law came over and said \"I think I can hear water running behind the washer.\" I went over, and sure enough, the sound of running water. Nothing on the floor, but water going somewhere. We pay for our water here biased on how much we use, so running water is a big deal, since I use lots of water on the garden and don't want to pay for water that is being wasted. I called Sears and talked to the owner, Fred. I told him that there was water running somewhere in the washing machine that they had just installed. First he said they just sale and install them, they don't make them, and I needed to call the 1-800 number. I told him that they had installed it and I expected him to fix it since I felt the installation was the problem. He then said they were real backed up and he could get someone here in a couple weeks. I reminded him of the house full of appliances I have purchased over the years and I expected someone here the next day. The repairmen showed up a couple days later and fixed the installation problem. I have purchased many appliances over the years from our local Sears because I like to keep as much of my money as I can in our small town, but I will not be buying more appliances from them in the future. If the other, very small appliance store in town doesn't have what I need, I will try ordering through them or go to the local Home Depot."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/or/eugene/sears-appliance-repair-reviews-9064760.htm"},"position":6},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"A & J Retaining Walls Co","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"OR","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Andrew S."},"reviewBody":""Jas" came out and gave me a bid for a retaining wall by a deck. Gave me options for rock, paver, and concrete. We chose rock for aesthetics and price. He came back about 3 weeks later on a particularly soggy November day. He and his workman worked all day long building the retaining wall. As it was progressing, I asked for a small change in the shape, and they accommodated this readily. I think they came back a day or two later to finish things up. I paid extra to have them backfill the top of the wall with extra dirt to make room for a planting bed; he recommended a dirt with more sand in it to help with drainage, and I deferred to his experience. However, it appears to me he used only sand, and didn't backfill nearly the whole area I had in mind. Perhaps this was a communication breakdown, but it's not what I wanted, and I'm going to have to do some work to make it look better and get it ready for planting. The overall quality of the wall is decent. It's straight and feels like it'll hold up for a number of years, but the top finish rocks seemed haphazardly placed, and I spend an hour or two afterward rearranging the top row to make it look more finished. We have other rock walls done on our property that cost a good deal more, and look a lot better, but this wall is mostly utilitarian and suits our needs adequately. They always bring their own port a potty so they don't bother us. They are really good about sealing off the area where they work to prevent dust and noise getting in the rest of their house so this is the first thing that they always do. They are super conscientious about environmental things, whether it is lead paint or sanding dust or using low emission paints and stuff like that. They take a level of care about the details that I have never seen with anybody else. They always have small little ideas on how to make something better; they always ask me if it is okay if we do this, we think it would work better with the pieces you have in this room and they have never charged me extra for it. I will use them again in the future.

Sam and his crew were at the house on time and finished installing ~550 sqft of nail down bamboo floors in 2 days. They did an exceptional job and the attention to detail was fantastic. The house looked like it was worth at least $20,000 more after they were finished installing the floors!...

FAQs for floor sanding projects in The Dalles, OR
The cost to refinish hardwood floors is $1,900 on average, ranging from $600 to $4,500, depending on the area size, the floor’s condition, the type of wood, the type of coating, and the refinishing method. Traditional refinishing includes sanding the floors, which can be very dusty and costs about $3 to $8 per square foot. Dustless refinishing uses a vacuum to collect dust during the sanding process, reducing the amount of dust produced, and costs about $5 to $8 per square foot.
You should aim to hire a professional floor cleaner once or twice per year to remove any set-in stains, resolve scratches, and make your floors look shiny and new again. If you have a bustling household with many children, pets, or severe allergies, having your floors cleaned four times per year is worth the investment to maintain the integrity of your flooring. Don’t forget to prioritize cleaning your floors yourself in between professional cleanings, too.
The cost to install hardwood flooring is about $4,800 on average, ranging from about $1,000 to $12,000. Nationally, the average cost to install hardwood floors ranges from $6 to $12 per square foot for labor and materials. High-end woods and large spaces may cost $13 to $25 per square foot.
Additional cost factors include:
Square footage of the area
Type of wood
Preparation requirements
Type of finish
Location
Floor style and pattern
Plank thickness
Wood grade, color, and grain
It’s time to refinish your hardwood floors when they show signs of age that diminish their overall appearance and function. A few surefire signals that you should consider refinishing your hardwood floors include:
Gouges, scrapes, deep scratches, and dents over a significant area
Discoloration from stains or sun exposure
Water damage causing rotting, warping, or bowing
Weak, spongy, or soft spots in the floor indicating damaged subflooring
Dull and worn appearance across most of the floor
The cost for professional floor cleaning is $250 on average. This cost can range from $100 to $1,500, depending on the type of flooring and its square footage.
For example, natural stone flooring requires specialized techniques and care, so you'll spend closer to the higher end of the cost range. The cost of cleaning tile and grout is more cost-effective, where you'll pay an average of $0.50 to $3.50per square foot.
