"I will start by thanking the people who invented the emails & computers, because record keeping and looking up is made really easy by the electronic media. Timeline of the events; Customer contacted us in Oct of 2013, he accepted our bid toward end of October and we completed the work toward end of November of 2013, customer contacted us again for additional work in July of 2014 (which we didn't do because he thought $ 630 was excessive amount to install additional pavers). Background on the customer and project. He purchased the property next door, tore down the old house and rebuilt new one. He was the general contractor for the project, hiring all the subcontractor and to some degree he would tell them how to do their job (at least it happened in our case). He gave us the specs to follow. At the time of bidding I told him these preamble pavers require different kind of base prep but he wanted to get it done per his specs, presumably to minimize the export & import of the materials & expense. Normally when customer wants us to cut the corners, I reject the work for this very reason but back in 2013 as the country was recovering from recession, work was slow, and we ended up working per customers specs for prep etc. Scope; He have about 10ft wide x 20ft deep poured concrete driveway (done by others). There are about 15ft between the driveway and entrance. We paved that area with Eco Priora, permeable pavers from Mutual Materials. It was pathway (not meant for driving) connecting the concrete driveway & steps to entrance. We also constructed about 200sq ft of patio & pathway in backyard with same pavers & same prep. Construction; We did the work per contract, per his specifications, got paid promptly. Customer contacted us few months later regarding settling of pavers. He wrote in email, about 10sq ft of area have settled. Couple weeks later, I sent my guys to fix it, when they lifted few pavers, they told me the dirt is washing away from under the pavers, because all the runoff from the concrete driveway is coming to the area. We suggested that we install catch basin to collect the water and channel it into storm drain, otherwise the settling will continue. Since the area settled due to runoff from other areas and possible settling from basement backfill done by others, we asked customer for additional work. We also offered to fix the problem area at no additional charges (without installing additional drainage in the corner), and told him it may settle again. He was faced with the choice of paying $ 500 to get it fixed right, or not pay anything and get it fixed but it may settle again. He wanted to give it some thought, we never heard from him again, until now through Angies list. Thank you for taking the time to read our side."
