When considering whether to paint your house yourself, weigh two major factors. One is time. The larger your home, the more time and energy you'll spend painting it to ensure a quality result that you're satisfied with. Mediterranean architecture and decor usually focus on earth tones for the bulk of the interior and exterior, including red, terracotta, cream, and white. Some homes in this style use bright colors with ornate designs as accents, like tile floors or backsplashes, or smaller pieces of decor, like throw blankets, area rugs, and pillows. The Spanish Revival style tends to be more muted, while the Italian Renaissance style is more flashy and makes more use of bright accents. Modern Mediterranean homes can be either or provide a mix of both.

When applying the first coat of touch-up paint, it is best to use a paint roller. A roller allows you to get a thin layer of paint to the area to avoid an unsightly blend with the old coat of paint. However, if you need to touch up the area a second time after the first coat has dried, a small brush will work best to avoid applying too much paint.

Magnetic paint is only available in dark gray or black because of the iron dust particles mixed through it. If your heart is set on a less-gloomy shade, add a top coat or two of other latex or chalkboard paint. But adding more than two top coats will degrade the magnetic properties. Dark top coats work better than light shades, as the black or gray magnetic paint is less likely to peek through.
