"HVAC Ministries came out on the same day, which is impressive. We had no heat and our water heater was leaking. It is difficult to get services out here to the coast at times. Mr. Cortes was very informative and explained in detail the work needed to be done. He came out on the 29th and they started work on the 31st. ( New Years Eve) They worked all day and into the night! They got it All done in one long day! Impressive! I recommend HVAC Ministries they are excellent, did a great job and cleaned up after themselves leaving no mess. Mr. Cortes and his crew were very professional and pleasant."

"I hired Joe to replace our existing furnace with a new high efficiency furnace and install central air conditioning in our home. Even with the difficulties surrounding the COVID pandemic and the subsequent supply-chain problems, he and his helper, Mike, did a superlative job. His website says that he "does it right the first time," and I found that to be completely true. I would hire again in a heartbeat whenever I need something else done."

"WOWWW! Above & beyond service, courteous & knowledgeable technician, and fair pricing... what more could you want?! I contacted Air Control Systems via Angie's List and (literally) within minutes received a phone call. They were able to send a technician out that same day (rare in todays service industry!) at no extra charge. Nathan was very personable yet prompt. He fixed the issue, while also checking everything else out to ensure peak performance moving forward. The cost was very fair, and I will not be using ANY other company for HVAC issues in the future! Outstanding!"

"It went really well! They made our existing lines work - may need to be replaced sometime in the future. They also cleaned our heater duct work (8-9) and they did an excellent job at the whole thing!!!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

No, it's not advisable to only replace the outside AC unit connected to your system. AC units are designed to work as a cohesive system, and older units work differently than newer units. Therefore, replacing only one component can lead to incompatibilities that affect the system’s performance. Replacing one component can void your warranty, costing you money for repairs.

There are ways to detect a refrigerant leak with several different testing methods. However, most homeowners can figure out something’s wrong with their AC unit by noticing these common signs:

  • Ice forming on the evaporator coil

  • Water leaks near the AC unit

  • Frequent hissing sounds

  • Increased electric bills

  • Unit takes longer than usual to cool

  • Unit is blowing hot air

It is possible to add air conditioning to an older home, but it can be very expensive to do so. Expect to pay anywhere from $6,000 to $17,000 or more for the ductwork and AC unit. You’ll also have to hack into the home’s walls and ceilings to add ductwork, which can impact the aesthetics of an old home.

You will enjoy greater energy efficiency and save on your annual energy bills, with new, modern HVAC systems using 30% to 50% less energy than older models. Upgrading your HVAC system is also a great way to embrace new technology, such as smart thermostats, lighting, fan speed, and humidity from your phone or tablet.

The difference between a home surge protector and an HVAC surge protector is that an HVAC surge protector is designed to protect the components inside your HVAC unit while a home surge protector is installed near appliances and meant to protect your entire home. There are three tiers of whole-house surge protectors, and they are more expensive to install than HVAC surge protectors.
