Yes, you can put a dimmer on a three-way switch, but it can’t be the same kind of dimmer you’d put on a standard light switch. A three-way switch requires a three-way dimmer. If two switches control a single or multiple lights, then you need a three-way dimmer. The type of light bulb should also be compatible with your fixture and dimmer.

At a minimum, you need an electrician to inspect the house wiring after a fire. The electrician will need to replace damaged or melted wires. If the electrical wiring is old, about 25 years or more, you should rewire the house after a fire. Old wiring can increase the risk of another fire, so replacing the wires is the safest option.

If your outlet is testing fine but keeps tripping, that’s a sign your GFCI outlet is working, but there’s a problem somewhere else. Try plugging in different devices and see if the outlet keeps tripping. If it’s not the appliance that’s causing the issue, it could be a problem in your wiring. Faulty wiring can be a source of electrical fires and other serious problems. We recommend arranging an inspection by an electrician if an outlet appears to be working but keeps tripping.

While not always necessary, wiring your circuit breaker in a certain way can ease both the installation process and use afterward. For starters, you’ll need to install the electrical panel so that the main service knockout aligns with the cable conduit. If they aren’t aligned, you may not have sufficient working space to finish running the wires. Using cable trays, on the other hand, gives you a bit more freedom to and flexibility in where and which direction you install the wires. At the end of the day, the power flow will be the same whether the cords run up or down.

Outlets with only two slots have no ground connection. That’s more common on very old outlets, which means it’s more likely the outlet won’t be polarized. You’ll have to closely examine the slots to see if there’s a size difference indicating polarization. Keep in mind outlets this old are usually out of code and should be replaced if you’re doing any electrical work.
