"Guy and his crew from Bigfoot Brush and Tree did an excellent job with my project. They trimmed and thinned a 30-year-old tree in my front yard and removed two trees in my backyard next to my pool. They were very careful not to damage my fence, patio or get branches in the pool and neighbor's yard. They arrived on time, worked quickly and efficiently straight through until completion. The crew left my property as clean as they found it. I was very impressed with the teamwork, the knowledge they shared as they went along and the overall quality of their performance. They were very friendly and courteous answering my questions and displayed great work ethic. I would use this company again and recommend them highly."

"Quick service , took down a 50 plus foot Douglas fir in hours. I was expecting to get on the roof and blow out the gutters but he did it as part of his service . Everything was cleaning up perfectly when he left hauling most of the tree off except what I requested for firewood. James and his team get an A+ and if you need any tree projects done he should be the first to call!"

"From the appointment for the bid thru the whole job, I was impressed with Bill and his crew. The night before coming he called and offered help moving my motorhome if needed! Arrived on time the next day with his crew and made quick work of taking down 7 tall pines. He left the chipped mulch where I wanted it, cut the logs into 8 feet as requested since I have a friend with a sawmill, took down 2 smaller dead trees for free, cleaned up the yard. They did a great job of getting my roof, gutters, and patios clear of the debris from the job as well as much that was already there. I am SO happy with the work and the crew! Fantastic job. We did remember the bid differently so the only suggestion I would have is to have bids in writing. I don't think he is the type of guy who would take advantage, and neither am I, so a written bid would help with misunderstandings. I still got a fair price and a great job done, so I would not hesitate to recommend Bill and his guys!"

"Matt was extremely professional and personable. He was well versed in cutting down trees and felled our 65 foot tall spruce like he did it every day! Very impressive. His price was on the low side of the quotes we had gotten and he was by far the most professional. We intend on recommending him to our neighbors."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

For small trees, tree removal should take just a couple of hours to complete. Assume that a mid-sized tree will take between four and eight hours, depending on the extent of the equipment required and the health of the tree. Remember to add up to two hours for stump removal. Larger trees could take as long as one or two working days, about eight hours each.

In the case that a tree is growing directly on your property line, the cost of maintaining the tree is shared and is the property of both owners in common. In this case, all decisions regarding the maintenance of the tree must be made jointly, and both parties must agree on a course of action. You will need to agree with your neighbor about the cutting of any roots before you carry it out, and your neighbor must also consult with you before doing any trimming. Coming to an agreement with your neighbor about any shared trees ahead of necessary trimming and maintenance will make this process much simpler.

Generally, you should prune around 20% of an apple tree’s growth—and never more than 30%. This means that if you have a severely overgrown tree, it can take a few seasons to prune it back enough to produce the healthiest fruit.

If you’re dealing with a newly planted or juvenile tree, hold off on pruning beyond the initial shaping. Wait at least a couple of seasons into fruit production since pruning can increase the number of water sprouts and unproductive foliage.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.

Yes, you should trim the lower branches of your maple tree for safety. Trimming maple trees as they grow helps lift the crown and canopy and trains it to grow straight up. A good rule of thumb is to prune enough branches to leave 6 feet of clearance under the tree.
