"Perfect work on complete exterior paint projects are impossible to achieve. However, these guy's did phenomenal work. Nate and Javier's care and attention to detail was impressive. This is especially notable considering how much demand there is currently for painters. They didn't show any signs of rushing so they could move on to the next job. Their communication was proactive, courteous and thorough, whether in-person, by phone and text message (when appropriate). They willingly accommodated a late ask from our neighbor to stain the second side of a fence. After the project, they tidied up well beyond expectation and even masked my externally mounted garage remote so I could paint with Rust-Oleum. The house was a bit of a dog before the work. Now, it's beautiful! I am surprised to not find any prior Angie's List reviews at the time of this review. Don't let that deter you from considering Nate/PDX Rose City. He'll be my first call if future painting needs arise. Nate & Javier, it was a true pleasure working with you."

"Great to work with! The crew came with many skill sets to accomplish a complete front and backyard landscape design project with sod, irrigation, flagstone fire pit area, and landscape lighting. The plants and trees provided were a good variety, healthy, and a great value given the size of the trees. Hope to work with them again on future projects."

"Rocket Construction replaced our shaker roof with a composite roof. We met with Matt and went through all of our choices and once we were ready to move forward they got us on the schedule. The crew that he sent to do the work was so friendly and hard working. We enjoyed chatting a bit with them each day. They worked diligently each day and got the job done quickly. They arrived promptly each morning and picked up each evening before heading out. Matt came by the day after everything was finished up to check the work himself and to see if we had any questions or concerns and to be sure we were satisfied. He is a genuinely nice guy who cares about his customer service. We would highly recommend them to others, and in fact already have!

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Beyond liquid rubber, homeowners can use sealants, stains, membranes, or tapes as waterproofing options. Oil-based or water-based sealants soak into the wood, creating a moisture-resistant barrier. Waterproofing stains—available in transparent, semi-transparent, and solid colors—add both protection and style to your deck. For heavy-duty waterproofing, deck membranes and waterproof tapes can be applied under the deck boards to direct water away from the structure below. Whatever method you choose, clean and prep the deck first to ensure the best, longest-lasting results.

Hangers are one way of attaching stair stringers to a deck. These metal hangers are usually adjustable, allowing you to find the ideal angle for a secure installation. They’re the best choice for installing longer staircases, such as one on a two-story deck, to reduce the load on the deck frame while keeping the stairs stable.

You can apply stain over peeling stain, but it’s not a good idea. Your old stain will get in the way of your new stain bonding to the wood, so you’re likely going to see the same issue again shortly after application. Your best option is to sand off the old stain and clean the surface thoroughly before applying new stain.

Choosing the best color for your home exterior should factor in longevity as well as your personal taste. To keep your house looking newly painted as long as possible, stay away from red paint. Although red homes pop and are quintessential for country-style barns, red paint tends to fade fastest in the sun. Go with earth tones if you want paint that best resists fading.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood to help prevent the boards from cracking. However, you must wait for the wood to dry out completely before applying any finish. Freshly treated wood can take weeks or even months to dry; a common recommendation is to wait three to six months. To check if the wood is ready, perform a simple water test: drip some water onto the surface. If the water beads up, the wood is still too wet and needs more time to dry. If the wood absorbs the water, it is dry enough to be painted or stained. You can proceed with building your deck or fence while the wood is still wet, but you will need to wait to apply the paint or stain.
