"Five Star was an excellent company to work with and were able to see my vision for my home and match it. Chris was great to work with, explaining the process and details that would really make my house look like the best house in the neighborhood. I appreciate his crew, who worked hard to replace my gutters and give my house a new paint job. They left my house far better than used to be. Their excellence was not overpriced, amongst the many, many quotes I received, they provided a bid that was exceptionally competitive and value-packed. Five Star earned...Five Stars!"

"The project went smoothly and was thousands of dollars cheaper than if I had gone with one of their competitors. It has now been about 4 years since the project was completed but the roof still looks brand new and hasn't had any issues."

"Drew did a wonderful job painting the exterior of our house. When we purchased our house in May, we knew we would have to get it painted. We contacted Drew who gave us a thorough and itemized bid. Drew pointed out several points of failure from the past paint job (bad to no prep, single coat). There was an extreme amount of prep on our house including two large decks. Drew is a single man operation. He does the prep, painting and touch ups. He did an excellent job on our house and we would definitely hire him again!"

"Rocket Construction replaced our shaker roof with a composite roof. We met with Matt and went through all of our choices and once we were ready to move forward they got us on the schedule. The crew that he sent to do the work was so friendly and hard working. We enjoyed chatting a bit with them each day. They worked diligently each day and got the job done quickly. They arrived promptly each morning and picked up each evening before heading out. Matt came by the day after everything was finished up to check the work himself and to see if we had any questions or concerns and to be sure we were satisfied. He is a genuinely nice guy who cares about his customer service. We would highly recommend them to others, and in fact already have!

"Replaced my roof.  I have a large roof because I have a one story home with over 2100 square feet (not including the two car garage).  I took advantage of the Big Deal and because of that I was able to get a roof with a little better quality roof with 50 year warranty for the same price as 30 year warranty roofs. I also had them replace three sky lights.   I gave them a "C" for responsiveness because I had to email a couple of times to nail down a date for them to complete.  I'm still waiting for one of my sky lights and I haven't heard from him for a couple of weeks.

|Thank you for the big deal because although I have had a little frustration it is well worth it.  They completed the roof in 2 days and that is saying something during the winter and a large roof.  They cleaned up really well and I have already given them a reference to my Mom which I wouldn't do if I didn't think they were fair and didn't do a good job."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

When staining a deck, don’t skip surface prep, avoid staining damp or dirty boards, and don’t apply stain in extreme heat, cold, or wet conditions. Never overload the wood with a stain, as too much can cause tackiness or peeling. Also, don’t forget to test a small area first to ensure the color and finish look right.

If you don’t treat a cedar fence, it will turn from reddish brown to gray over time. You can keep the cedar from graying and retain its attractive, deep red color by sealing your cedar fence with a stain that keeps the wood’s oils in and serves as a barrier against the sun’s UV rays.

In most cases, sanding an old deck before staining it is necessary to achieve a decent finish. If your old deck has a relatively new stain finish on it and you're only doing touch-ups, you can generally skip the sanding part. However, if your goal is to make the deck look and function better, sanding first is a must.

Waterproof paint creates a barrier to hold back moisture, but it doesn’t eliminate the source of the water. If you hire a basement waterproofing contractor, many will tell you that waterproof paint is only a temporary solution. On average, you can expect it to last from six months to two years in a wet basement before deteriorating.

Yes, you must thoroughly clean your deck before staining. If you don't, dirt, debris, grease, and mildew can get trapped between the wood and the new stain. This not only looks unsightly but also prevents the stain from penetrating the wood properly, reducing its ability to protect the deck from weather and UV rays. As a result, the stain won't last as long or look as good. Any existing mold or mildew left untreated can continue to grow beneath the new stain, potentially leading to wood rot and structural damage. Always wait at least 48 hours after cleaning for the wood to dry completely before applying stain.
