"Beyond any doubt.. Diamond Tile and Stone is the ONLY tiler that I will recommend to anyone. After contacting several other local tilers, they were the only ones who were completely willing to come out and look at my self-remodeled bathroom without question. It was a very difficult space for me to remodel (1930's bathroom) and I had some fears about the space that was to be tiled and how the finished product would look. When the owner of Diamond Tile and Stone came out to my house to look at my project he immediately put my fears to rest, and took the job on without question. The cost of the tile project (tub surround) was quite reasonable as we were on a tight budget and they did a fantastic job with a very impressive quality of work. Additionally, they were very friendly and extremely easy to work with from start to finish. I feel fortunate to have found Diamond Tile and Stone."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Tile costs vary by material; for example, ceramic tends to be more affordable than stone. These influence installation timelines and skill requirements.

For professional labor and materials, it would cost between $6,000 and $28,000 to install 1,000 square feet of Saltillo tile flooring. If that’s out of your budget, you could consider laying the tiles yourself or choosing a less expensive type of flooring. For example, vinyl flooring costs just $2 to $7 per square foot, so for a 1,000-square-foot space, you’d pay $2,000 to $7,000.

The best types of tiles for a shower are ceramic and porcelain tiles. These materials are durable, water-resistant, and easy to maintain, making them ideal for wet environments. Porcelain tiles are slightly more durable than ceramic. Both options come in a wide variety of styles, so you can achieve the perfect look for your bathroom.

When working on your bathroom floor tiling, you should always tile the floor first and then refit the toilet afterward. This has both practical and visual advantages—the tile will have a better seal, and the installation will look cleaner.

On the other hand, when you try to cut the tiles to fit around the toilet, you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage. It’s a lot more work, it’s hard to be precise, and mistakes or miscalculations can lead to future moisture damage to the tiling, grout, and subfloor.

The underlayment determines a ceramic tile’s sturdiness, and a cement board or backer board works best. Be sure to tape the joints when using these materials, and consider laying it on top of a layer of thin-set for more stability.
