"Russ did an excellent job! He only came to provide an estimate and see what additional parts might be needed, but he luckily had everything with him and was able to do the pet door installation immediately; I already had the pet door. Also, the pet door is installed in an exterior wall of the house, not a door. So, he had to add wood at the top and bottom of the box, and had to trim some of one of the studs, which is luckily not major load bearing and seems to be there just to attach the exterior trim."

Small jobs welcome

"Ironwood did a fantastic job of installing 2 pre-hung doors and a custom installed front door. The staff were very patient and helpful as we had to pivot a few times on how the front door install could be accomplished amid challenging limitations in the framing. We are very happy with the results and look forward to working with them again!"

"He was here on time and worked until the door was rehung correctly. The lock had stopped working as well and he had to align and realign so it would latch. It's an 18 year old door so he had to work on it for awhile but wanted to make sure it would work properly. I really appreciate the timeand care he took to make sure it was secure."

Doors questions, answered by experts

No, it’s not safe to leave a doggy door open. It might be more convenient, especially at night when you just want to lay in bed. However, when you leave it open, it increases the chance of other critters getting in without your knowledge. Also, it leaves your pup unsupervised for hours at a time.

Yes, doggie doors, like all entrances, can let both hot and cold air into your home. However, as with any door in your house, you can take steps to weather-strip your pet's entrance to prevent air leaks.

Many doors can be cut to size, but it depends on the door material. Solid wood doors are relatively easy to trim to a specific size, while hollow core and metal doors are trickier and can usually only be shaved down a little before you risk damaging them. If your door needs a lot of adjustment, it's best to order a custom size or have a pro do the resizing to make sure it holds up over time.

You can use a variety of wood to build a barn door, but the most common options include 1-by boards and 2-by boards for the backing and the decorative boards on the front of the door. Softwoods like pine will save you some money and should hold up well, while hardwoods like maple and oak will stand up to more wear and tear. You could also build the backer out of plywood to minimize the cuts you need to make. Whatever you decide on, make sure the width of the wood is compatible with the mounting brackets you buy.

A door sill is the horizontal part of the door frame at the bottom, while a door jamb consists of the vertical parts of the frame on either side. The door sill serves as a threshold, sealing the bottom of the door, while the door jamb provides structural support and houses the hinges and latch. Both are essential components of a door frame, with the door sill acting as a transition point and the door jamb providing stability and functionality.
