Advanced Vertical Solutions, LLC D.B.A. AVS Elevator is built on the life long experience as a 4th generation native Oregonian and 2nd generation elevator constructor. Frank A. Stalen and his father Paul J. Stalen have spent their elevator careers and lives in the City of Portland, contributing to its local communities. Their combined Oregon history brings AVS Elevator an in-depth study of the elevator industry dating back to the early 1950‘s and an understanding of its place in our ever growing economy and local communities. The birth of AVS Elevator came from a steady decline of the service offered by the industry as a whole. For example, the annual service work load for the average elevator constructor has elevated from approximately 50 elevators to 300 per man and growing. Safety, reliability and customer service has been marginalized as profit taking and ever growing overhead percentages drive the work loads of the elevator constructors beyond the breaking point by the industry conglomerates. “We have set out to bring you an alternative choice and to fill a void in the industry.” In developing our business plan with Mercy Corps Northwest. "American Home Shield (AHS) warranty is replacing my broken microwave with a new one. I received the new microwave on 11/11/2020 and notified AHS it was in my possession. Part of the warranty contract includes the installation of the new microwave. AHS typically assigns contractors themselves. However, this time AHS contracted with C & R Services with a dispatch number on 11/13/2020 for C & R to assign a local contractor to do the install. After two weeks of waiting and not being contacted by C & R or a contractor, I called C & R to follow up on the status. They said it would be 1 to 2 weeks from the date they received the dispatch from AHS. I informed them it had been 2 weeks in which they replied that it would be another 2 weeks. As of today, 12/11/2020, 4 weeks from the date C & R received the dispatch, I have not been contacted by C & R or a contractor. C & R's lack of communication and customer service is absurd. AHS informed me that they do not have any authority over C & R."

Buck's Stove Palace is small business that has operating in Portland since 1974. The founder and owner Buck has decades of experience in both new and antique stoves.

"It went smoothly. They always kept in touch with email's & phone calls. They called 1/2 hour before scheduled time to say they were on their way. The laid down mats to protect my floors. The cleaned out the insert and vacuumed all around so not to spill any debris into the room. They were worth every penny. They said the stove was about 600 lbs. They carefully explained about the EPA needed proof that the stove was removed & destroyed which I had no idea it was needed."

Appliance Repair questions, answered by experts

The cost of home appliances ranges from $350 to $8,000 or more, depending on the brand, type of appliance, and features. Additional cost factors include any hookups that need to be installed, such as gas, plumbing, or electrical. Keep in mind that major appliances, such as refrigerators, washers and dryers, and water heaters, will cost more than minor appliances, such as microwaves, due to the size, complexity, and essential nature of the item.

Most appliance retailers have dedicated installation teams that can tackle the delivery and installation process simultaneously. Unfortunately, just because a retailer sells a specific appliance brand doesn’t mean that its installation technicians are certified by that manufacturer to complete the installation. You could end up with a voided warranty if the installer isn't certified, costing more money down the road. It’s best to find an installer that is certified by your appliance manufacturer, even if it means paying more or dealing with potential scheduling conflicts.

Faulty heating elements, broken igniters, temperature inconsistencies, and gas leaks are frequent issues.

Yes, the majority of appliances that run at 240v will work with a 220v outlet, but will often run slower and may have a slight delay in turning on. This could also cause long term damage to the appliance being used, so it’s recommended to always use the correct voltage for your appliance and upgrade to a 240v outlet if needed.

The safest option is to let a technician conduct the inspection. However, if you are certain that the capacitor failed and you take all precautions to avoid electric shock, you can take a look yourself. Usually, you can open the front panel of the unit and use a flashlight to find the small capacitor cylinder. It should have a sticker on it that provides its product number, capacity, and similar information that you can note when talking to a contractor.
