"We were so impressed with Home Comfort! We had a lot of questions when doing our research and Aaron and Chris showed exceptional patience, coming out to our house twice to go over the different product options available to us and describe the installation process. We chose Home Comfort over the other 4 contractors we interviewed because we liked their professionalism, their ratings on Angie's List, and their O% financing option. The installation went like clockwork. Just as had been described to us, first the electricians came, who were so friendly and efficient. Then came the installation crew who worked steadily through the day, pausing to give me updates along the way. Both the furnace and air conditioning unit were installed carefully, with great attention to detail. We appreciated that they covered our floors and cleaned up thoroughly when they were done. They also fixed the insulation in our attic that had fallen down, before running the coolant lines through. Last came Johnny who fired up the system and made sure both the furnace and air conditioner were communicating properly with our new thermostat. It is normal for the attic to be hotter than the rest of the house in the summer, but only by about 10 or 20 degrees. A-frame houses pose specific challenges that can make heating difficult. Their open concept design with high ceilings can lead to a colder lower floor and a warmer upper floor. A ceiling fan that pushes warm air down or pulls cold air up, depending on the season, can easily counteract temperature issues. Additionally, certain types of heating do better in these homes than others. For example, heated floors tend to be more practical and energy efficient than baseboard heating.

You’ve likely heard the saying “heat rises”—well, it’s true! This is why it is critical to properly insulate your attic and protect yourself from chilly winter nights. During summer, your attic insulation will also protect against excessive heat gain radiating through the ceiling into the rest of your home below.

Spray foam insulation can last up to 80 to 100 years, making your investment worthwhile over the long run. Closed-cell spray foam tends to have the highest durability. Open-cell foam is subject to moisture, which can lead to deterioration. Remember that some spray foams will damage plastic piping, so consult a pro if you have PVC or CPVC pipes.

As long as your existing insulation isn’t compromised, you can add new insulation directly over them. Inspect your insulation thoroughly and make any minor repairs. Then, add new insulation on top of it. You must be completely certain that there is no contamination or mold growth before doing so. That said, when unsure, consider removing old insulation and lay down fresh ones.
