"I had just had my trees serviced when two weeks later we had a terrible ice storm. I had three widow makers and a yard full of debris. I called my original tree service, left multiple phone and text messages to request removal of the dangerous foliage/limbs and they have yet to respond. I finally started calling everyone on Angie's List and finally got a hold of Franasco. I told him about my plight and he was here within the hour with an estimate. I thought pricing was a little high, but this was a dangerous situation. I decided to pay after he said he could be here by 8am the next morning. Every other company was three weeks to two months out. The team arrived on-time, worked diligently and professionally and completed the job in about three hours. I was completely thrilled with their work ethic, thoroughness and personability of the entire team. Quality Tree Service is now my GO-TO tree service company. I highly recommend them."

"Very pleased with the services provided. We contacted and received bids from a couple tree trimming service companies. We are glad we went with North Woods. The service was scheduled and delivered as planned. The staff was knowledgeable, efficient and courteous. Clean up was thorough. Great job!"

"From start to finish Tree Masters provided fantastic service. Setting the appointments was quick and easy, the initial review of the trees was done within a day or two of calling, and Matt and his team came out just a few days later and did excellent work. There was great customer service every step of the way and the results were excellent. It was very budget friendly too. I appreciated the work but also the info and advice Matt shared about caring for the trees and his ideas on our options for other trees in our yard. I've already recommended Tree Masters to others."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Unfortunately, palm tree stumps are one of the most difficult types to remove due to how their roots grow. Unlike other trees, palm tree roots grow horizontally and vertically. Palm tree roots grow as deep as three feet into the ground, although soil and growing conditions could mean they go as far as 50 inches into the earth.

If you want to be able to repurpose the grass in the area where you removed a stump later, you’ll have to dig quite deep—and perhaps wide—to trim away all the roots.

Some fast-acting products can rot a tree stump in four to six weeks. Keep in mind, these products contain harsh chemicals that may prevent regrowth in the area. Other products, like fertilizer that contains lots of nitrogen, can enhance the process and rot a stump in about a year. (This is compared to the ten years it can take naturally for a stump to rot.)

An arborist specializes in tree care, performing tasks such as pruning, treating diseases, and removing hazardous trees. They also assess soil conditions, plant trees, and develop landscaping plans to ensure healthy growth. They also manage debris cleanup, inspect equipment, and record maintenance activities. Arborists often collaborate with landscapers and professional tree maintenance services, applying their specialized knowledge and problem-solving skills to maintain tree health and safety.

It is possible to burn out a tree stump if it is dried out and in an area of your property with a large buffer. Drill holes in the stump and dig around the base so it burns more easily. Then, build a small campfire on top using kindling and firewood. You’ll need enough to keep the fire going for many hours to completely burn out the stump, especially if it’s large.

Monitor the fire closely to ensure it doesn’t spread, and have a hose on hand if it starts to get out of control. When the fire is out, break apart the burned stump and dig out what’s left of it.

If this sounds like a good option, learn more about how to burn a tree stump before attempting it, as it does come with risks.

Ideally, you’ll have a good enough relationship with your neighbors that you can kindly mention this task in regular conversation. However, every neighbor (and neighborhood) is different. Your best bet will always be to ask directly and nicely, offering to contribute to the tree trimming efforts if you’d like. However, if you are bothered by the tree and your neighbor is unwilling to cut it, you can involve the help of the homeowners’ association or local authorities, if applicable.
