"This company is obviously nationwide and hires local contractors.  I trusted Agies List that all contractors are licensed, bonded and have background checks.  This person was a handyman and not qualified to wall mount, conceal wires, add electrical outlet.  He  spend five hours in my home, for a job that should have taken two hours and left the area in a disaster.  The TV was hung close to the ceiling, the wires were hanging down from the TV, and the receiver was sitting on top of a plaster box because the cord was too short.  He was obviously not qualified to install TV wall mounts.  I have photos.    As soon as he left, I called Best Buy Geek Squad.  They were able to come out the next day and mount the TV professionally.  I have used the geek squad in Virginia and they are highly qualified.  They charge more than this nationwide company but you get what you pay for.  I called Angies List the day after the disaster and said i did not want to rate this company but I wanted to talk to a manager. No one called me to apologize. I have cancelled my membership.  Do not use this company unless you can be assured that the local contractor is qualified and is licensed.  You should never let anyone into your home that has not had background checks.

"We have American Home Shield warranty. We did have some plumbing and electrical work done. I have no idea who the service was because we did it through the home warranty. They have a $75 deductible for everything. American Home Shield has been great, definitely A across the board. The $75 deductible seemed great for cost and professionalism. They have a web site, Hub, where you can request service and everything, so A across the board for them. They are punctual and they cover the range of plumbing and - they cover a lot of issues with the home so I can always go to them if anything goes wrong, from plumbing to electrical to appliances. They've got me covered across the board."

"There were many things wrong in my computer (my fault and letting grandchildren on computer) Robert was so helpful, gave me many good instructions to keep everything safe, which I have written down, feel like I have a new computer. He was so excellent and experienced, took his time and was meticulous about what needed to be done. He was a pleasure to work with and I will use this company again! Linda Disy"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Your Baker City home is well-suited for electrical upgrades if it has an accessible electrical panel, was built after 1980, or has undergone recent renovations. Standard ranch or two-story layouts and homes with 200-amp service are easier to update. If your property features original knob-and-tube wiring or is in a historic district, extra planning and specialized expertise are needed to address unique wiring and code challenges.

Helpful?

Common mistakes in Baker City include skipping necessary permits, underestimating winter electrical loads, and installing fixtures that don’t align with historic guidelines. Homeowners sometimes overlook the unique electrical needs of rural properties or attempt complex home wiring without understanding local codes. Failing to plan for voltage drops on large lots or neglecting GFCI protection in areas exposed to snow melt can also create safety and compliance issues.

Helpful?

Baker City’s cold winters, high elevation, and heavy snowfall require electrical components that can withstand harsh weather. Outdoor work is best scheduled in spring or fall, when conditions are milder. Wind storms and lightning make surge protection and secure installations essential. Outdoor wiring should be buried below the frost line, and weatherproof covers are necessary to protect against freeze-thaw cycles and moisture common in the area.

Helpful?

In Baker City, it’s time to consider electrical upgrades if you notice frequent breaker trips during cold months, lights dimming during wind storms, or if your home still has original wiring from before 1960. Schedule major electrical panel upgrades or rewiring between April and October for safer conditions. Persistent outages or voltage fluctuations mean it’s wise to consult a local electrician for surge protection or home wiring updates.

Helpful?

Homes in Baker City’s historic neighborhoods often feature thick masonry, intricate plaster, or unique layouts that can make electrical work more complex. If your property has multiple additions, older foundations, or metal roofing, special attention to grounding and wiring routes is needed. Consulting a local expert helps ensure your electrical project meets code and preserves original architectural details, especially in historic or multi-story homes.
