"Freedom is responsive (a technician was at our house within 30 minutes to fix the busted fitting), they do quality work, and their pricing is reasonable. Between our house and several rental properties, we have had Freedom install new water heaters, heat & A/C units, service existing ones, replace faucets, sinks and toilets, and fix just about any plumbing issue imaginable. They are wonderful!"

"I give them two out of three. The plumber was here quickly and as expected. His work was professional and it seems the job was done fine. But was hit with weird payment schedule which was degrading. After surveying what needed to be done, the plumber had to start with a top fix of about $850, which I did not need. Then proceeded to discuss the lower levels of work and their price. The bottom fix was called "band aid" which was all that was needed for a 4 year old toilet. it was a bit pricey at $248. Seemed to be a manipulative marketing system to get as much money as they could out of you. So be wary of the hard sell, or should I say over sell."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

If you notice water coming out of the bottom of your tank or the flush handle, you obviously have a leaking tank. Water on the side of the tank can indicate cracks. Other signs include the toilet running and flushing without anyone touching the handle, needing to jiggle the handle to make the water stop after flushing, or needing to hold the handle down to empty the water tank.

According to the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), the distance between your trap and the vent should be no more than 6 feet. For your vent to work properly, it needs to feed into the drain line within 6 feet of trapways that connect to it. Using this formula, you should be able to determine whether you will need multiple vent lines.

Generally, toilet leaking is not an emergency unless the leakage is severe. However, any leakage at the bottom should be addressed as soon as possible because it could lead to water damage to the floors, under the tiles, or into the walls. Leaks at the bottom can also lead to mold growth if unaddressed.

Left unattended, a leaking toilet will eventually cause water damage or mold growth. If you’re a homeowner, you can file an insurance claim for water damage. However, that can be a long and tedious process; sometimes, your insurance company may not cover the damage. Therefore, it’s always best to fix any leak you notice right away if you can.

It is safe to flush the toilet even if the pipes are frozen, and this may even help clear out the pipes. But if the supply line is frozen, the toilet won’t refill itself until it’s thawed out. You can still flush by pouring water into the tank to refill it.
