"My Chimney leaked water into my fireplace when it would rain. I live in a very old brick home and with time my chimney began to have mortar issues and the mortar needed to be repaired. Baxter Stone & Brick Repair Co. did an excellent job! They were here on time, worked very hard all day, were very nice people, cleaned everything up when they were done. It has rained since the repair and my fireplace has remained dry !!! These guys were great and I am very pleased!"

"Doug called within minutes of me requesting a professional. He said he could be there the next morning. Doug call that morning to inform me he was running about 2 hours behind. I appreciated the call. The tech cleaned the fireplace, polite, cleaned the area of his work and fast. Explained the minor problem and showed me how to operate the fireplace. Tech was there about 15 mins. This company but was a bit high in cost that's why I put 4 stars, but overall I would recommend this company."

"It's a pretty decent system, I think. They send you the pieces and you install them yourself, which is pretty easy. The only real problem I have is that one sensor is too far away from the panel...or there's some interference, and they haven't been able to fix that. It's an interior door, so it's not the end of the world, just a little annoying. Their customer service is pretty good though. Nice, smart customer service people on the other end, very polite and helpful."

If you have a chimney, you need a flue or chimney cap. The right covering keeps rain, debris, and animals from getting into your flue or chimney and causing damage. A flue or chimney cap also provides fire protection. The mesh insert around the cap keeps sparks from flying out of the chimney and igniting leaves and other materials.

They’re both types of wood-burning fireplaces, but a wood fireplace is built directly into a wall and attached to a chimney. A built-in wood fireplace often has an open hearth, although some models have an enclosed hearth. On the other hand, a wood-burning fireplace insert is a self-contained box that slides into an existing fireplace opening.

How you stop your fireplace from smoking depends on the cause. Sometimes it’s as simple as opening the damper. Other times, you need to battle air pressure. The best course of action is to ensure proper ventilation, whether that means opening a door or a window; avoid building a large fire, which produces more smoke; and use seasoned hardwoods, which produce less smoke than other types of wood. Ideally, your chimney cap should be at least 8 inches above the top of the flue, though it's better if it's even higher. You want it to sit that high because it won't affect the chimney's draft, which pulls the smoke up and out of your chimney and away from your home.
