"My Chimney leaked water into my fireplace when it would rain. I live in a very old brick home and with time my chimney began to have mortar issues and the mortar needed to be repaired. Baxter Stone & Brick Repair Co. did an excellent job! They were here on time, worked very hard all day, were very nice people, cleaned everything up when they were done. It has rained since the repair and my fireplace has remained dry !!! These guys were great and I am very pleased!"
"Both techs were very polite and courteous. I was very pleased with the tech that was there to look at the fireplace. He had to crawl around under our house to find the problem, and gave me a very clear description of what we would need to do. We weren't dead set on fixing the fireplace, we just wanted to know what was wrong with it, so he gave us a quote for what it would take to fix, but didn't try too hard to sell us on having them fix it right away. This was all for the initial fee of $85. As for the HVAC quote, the tech gave us 3 options, though all 3 were much more expensive than the provider we ended up going with. It seemed as if all three options were slightly over-engineered for the square footage we had upstairs, thus the increased cost."
"We have Frontpoint at two houses. We had been looking for ways to cut our monthly expenses (Frontpoint is approx. $100 per month total), so I called them to find out what I could do. They informed me that I was under contract for another year, and that I cannot get out of the contract without an early termination fee that is equal to the cost of the service. I'm a little disappointed, because the upfront cost of the system was very expensive ($1,000+) for each house, so it seems odd that I would get sucked into this contract. Nevertheless, I forgot that I signed up for this with them. My calendar is marked for the day that my service ends, and I will be switching to a company that charges about half of what they do. They have OK customer service and are very responsive, but the wireless system had some issues with reception in my house due to a fireplace, and then they didn't want to work with me to get that resolved. They're OK, but I can't really recommend them."

Electric fireplaces give off more heat than you might think. Because they don’t lose heat through a ventilation system, which is required for wood-burning and gas fireplaces, they’re able to disperse more heat into the room. However, many electric fireplaces are limited to a max of 5,000 or 5,200 BTU heat output, and you can get more from traditional fireplaces.
A fireplace can take anywhere from a few hours to several weeks to remodel, depending on the complexity of the project. For example, for a simple paint job, you’ll spend very little time touching up your fireplace, while larger remodels that involve replacing or repairing a fireplace can take up to 4 weeks.
Backdraft is usually caused by a ventilation or pressure problem. To stop it, you need to replace the air your fireplace draws out through the chimney, so open a window to try and increase the airflow. Sometimes turning on a kitchen or bathroom exhaust fan can help, but they could also be the cause of the backdraft depending on the air pressure inside your home. You may need to install a makeup air system (MUAS) or chimney fan.
You should get your chimney cleaned around once per year, but you might want to opt for bi-annual cleanings if you use your fireplace often. Remember, your boiler likely vents into your chimney as well, so cleaning is required even if you don’t use your fireplace. It’s a good idea to clean your chimney during the summer so that it’s ready to use when you want a worry-free cozy fire on that first crisp autumn night of the season.
