"They arrived within an hour I would guess, which I would call prompt service. Seemed to share medical concern if I would need supplies or to get out. Genuine courteous. And the price was as quoted over the phone. Thank you. I would hire them again."

"They arrived on schedule and began work immediately.  They were able to quickly trim the elm tree to our satisfaction.  The willow tree took a little more time due to the proximity of the homes and multiple dead limbs at the top of the tree.  I was pleased with their work, and will definitely use them again.  They are very professional, and know their business well.

"I had a big tree that needed cut and hauled off. It was there when I left for work and everything was cleaned up and gone when I got home. Very pleased with the work that was done."

"I sold 4 other jobs for them to my neighbors and several other people from the neighborhood stopped by and inquired about them doing tree work for them. I think it was a successful appointment. My trees are much happier and look much better after Freedom did their job!"

"Very knowledgable at what they do. I recommend at least giving 1st Choice a call. Me and my husband couldn't agree on plants so josh went with us to the plant store twice to try and do whatever he could to makes us happy. His prices were around everybody else's but we went with them because of the time and effort he put into it. We will be calling 1st Choice again very soon to do are back yard. The job they did so far beyond our aspects and our yard is beautiful!!! Thanks

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

On average, tree removal costs around $750, with a typical range between $200 and $2,000. The final price depends on several factors, including the tree's height, trunk diameter, species, and overall health. Accessibility is also a key factor; costs will be higher if the tree is in a hard-to-reach area or located near structures like power lines or your home. Additional costs may apply for services such as stump removal (which can add $100 to $150), log-splitting, debris cleanup, and obtaining necessary permits. It is also customary to tip the professional, usually between $20 and $100.

The best time to cut down a tree is during its dormant season, typically in winter or early spring, after all the leaves have fallen. Removing a tree during this period is advantageous for several reasons. Frozen ground helps secure the tree stump, protects the surrounding landscape from damage, and reduces the risk of the tree falling in an unintended direction. With the leaves gone, there is less risk of the tree's foliage getting tangled with other trees. Additionally, since this is often a slower season for tree services, you may be able to hire a professional at a lower rate. This dormant period is also the best time for tree trimming.

Ivy eventually kills trees by restricting its growth, blocking sunlight, absorbing nutrients and water from the soil, and weakening the tree. Trees with ivy are more likely to experience diseases, pests, rot, and fungi growth. When ivy weighs down tree branches, the tree is more likely to break during a storm and cause damage.

Most trees can be successfully transplanted while they are young, but pines, walnuts, and some oak tree varieties are more difficult to move because their root systems grow deeper than most other trees. Also, trees adapted to sandy soil with wide root systems like beeches, willows, and aspens are harder to dig out because their roots spread much farther out from the trunk. In these cases, unless the trees are very young and small, it’s a good idea to consult a tree planting professional.

You can trim just one side of the tree, especially when that side is growing near something like a power line or a home. Pros will carefully trim the tree back until it is safe from that structure. While this is common, it also needs to be done with the utmost care, as pruning or trimming away at one side of the tree may make it structurally unsound. This instance is yet another where hiring a pro is wise, especially if power lines are involved.
