"American Home Shield (AHS) warranty is replacing my broken microwave with a new one. I received the new microwave on 11/11/2020 and notified AHS it was in my possession. Part of the warranty contract includes the installation of the new microwave. AHS typically assigns contractors themselves. However, this time AHS contracted with C & R Services with a dispatch number on 11/13/2020 for C & R to assign a local contractor to do the install. After two weeks of waiting and not being contacted by C & R or a contractor, I called C & R to follow up on the status. They said it would be 1 to 2 weeks from the date they received the dispatch from AHS. I informed them it had been 2 weeks in which they replied that it would be another 2 weeks. As of today, 12/11/2020, 4 weeks from the date C & R received the dispatch, I have not been contacted by C & R or a contractor. C & R's lack of communication and customer service is absurd. AHS informed me that they do not have any authority over C & R."

"Beware of shipping issues with this company. Ordered an ice maker installation kit on 10/10/25. Shipping was due no later than 10/20 according to company and FedEx tracking. FedEx tracking showed the package at their facility for 8 days without moving beginning on 10/15. Called FedEx 3 times. Each time they said they cannot find package and I have to contact shipper. Shipper has to make a claim, they will not mark it as lost. Called Appliance Parts Pros twice. Each time they say FedEx has to mark package lost before they will do anything. They also state they have to wait 14 days from them before doing anything because of their contract with FedEx. I don't care about their contract, I want what was ordered and paid for. Just going in circles with them and FedEX. If they shipped after 14 days it would be 22 days from that point, 32 days from the date of order if they shipped it that day. There was a deadline for installing this part before tenants arrive. They did not care, would not m"

Choosing the right appliance installation company involves finding an installer with a positive reputation among past customers, works with your specific appliances, and won’t void your manufacturer’s warranty. We recommend you ask the following questions to any installer you’re considering hiring:

  • Are you fully insured?

  • Can you handle the gas line or water line connection I need?

  • Are you certified by my appliance manufacturer for installation?

  • Do you have any customer references I can call?

  • How many years have you been in business?

  • Do you offer discounts if I need multiple appliances installed?

The best way to tell is if there’s a label, but there are other methods. Gas heaters will have gas lines leading to the unit, with a pilot light near the bottom of the tank (this is sometimes behind a small panel). Electric units often have lights to signal if they’re heating or not and may have electric panels to control the unit. If there is a vent pipe leading from your heater, it’s almost certainly gas-powered.

While the line can't be removed, a pro can place a cap on the end to stop leaks. Contact a pro for a service call and speak with them about the related costs of either capping or removing the line altogether. Capping a gas line will cost between $75 and $150 while removing it will start at $250.

In most cases, the repair is worth the value as it should help maintain the life of the appliance for a longer period, and the repair should be a lower cost than replacing the entire unit. For example, if the cost to repair your refrigerator will be more than 50% of the cost to buy a new one, and it’s 10 years old or more, then it may not be worth repairing. 

If your unit is more than 10 years old and facing constant repairs, replace it with a new air conditioner. If the unit is under 10 years old but repairs total more than $5,000, consult your warranty. If repairs still cost more than $5,000 after warranty coverage, go ahead and replace the unit. Keep the lifespan of an AC unit and the cost of maintenance in mind when deciding whether to repair or replace an air conditioner.
