"It was great. Josh Betts returned my call first thing the next morning, and he was at the property quickly (and on a Sunday). Josh was right on time for the walk-through with our contractor. We had the repair plans the following afternoon. Josh is clearly very knowledgeable. I would recommend Betts Structural with absolutely no hesitation."

"They did a great job on the foundation repair adding 8 push piers and successfully moving the foundation back into place. However, in their rush they put a hole in the back of my house with the backhoe and it took them almost 6 months to repair and repaint the damage. I still recommend them since they were the only ones with the correct foundation fix."

"The techs did a great job, and once I alerted them to my flower beds directly in front of the porch to be lifted, were very careful not to damage my emerging hostas. I'd definitely recommend Acculevel and already have to my sister for her patio/parking spot."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

For small masonry concerns in Youngstown, you can gently brush away surface stains, use a color-matched masonry caulk for hairline cracks, or patch minor mortar gaps with a compatible mortar mix. Always wear gloves and a mask, and avoid pressure washing older brick. If you notice crumbling bricks or shifting walls, stop repairs and consult a local masonry expert.

Helpful?

For a smooth masonry project in Youngstown, schedule work during stable weather and allow extra time for rain delays. Confirm if your property falls within a historic district and clarify any special requirements. Arrange for underground utility marking before any excavation. Select contractors familiar with local brick and stone types, and keep detailed notes on any previous repairs. Notify neighbors if access or noise may affect them.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Youngstown often misjudge mortar compatibility, leading to mismatched repairs that can damage historic brickwork. Attempting repairs in freezing or wet conditions can cause poor adhesion. Overlooking the need for permits in historic districts or failing to identify hidden foundation problems are frequent errors. Not marking underground utilities before digging for stone restoration or brick repair is another common oversight.

Helpful?

In Youngstown, homes with stone foundations, decorative brickwork, or additions from different eras may present unique masonry challenges. Signs like uneven floors, visible bowing in exterior walls, or mismatched brick patterns often indicate underlying issues. Tight alleyways, mature landscaping, or older utility lines can also complicate access for repairs, making a professional site evaluation especially valuable.

Helpful?

In Youngstown, repair is usually more cost-effective than full replacement, especially for homes with original brick or stonework from the early 20th century. Addressing issues like mortar joint deterioration or minor brick cracks helps maintain historic character and avoids the disruption of full replacement. Replacement is generally only needed for widespread structural damage or when the existing masonry is severely compromised.
