"Chris with Friesen Family Renovations, LLC was very professional and thorough in the work he has completed. He installed a new screen door, replaced my tub stem and faucet, repaired my subfloor in the kitchen and installed brand new LVP flooring to replace old and water damaged flooring. He also mounted a television for me, and did some drywall repairs as well. I would recommend this business to anyone looking for quality and dependable work!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

For maintaining new asphalt in Youngstown, OH, you should have climate-specific supplies ready. Keep cold patch asphalt mix for emergency winter pothole repairs and a hot pour crack sealant for freeze-thaw damage. Sealcoating supplies suitable for Ohio's temperature swings are also essential. Finally, have squeegees and brooms on hand to manage water during the area's 38 inches of annual precipitation.

Helpful?

Youngstown homeowners are choosing permeable asphalt for improved drainage, especially in areas prone to heavy rain. Decorative borders using stamped concrete or brick are popular for boosting curb appeal. Heated driveway systems are gaining traction for winter convenience, while thicker base layers and reinforced edges are requested to handle frequent snow removal and heavy vehicles, reflecting local preferences for durability and style.

Helpful?

In Youngstown, frequent freeze-thaw cycles and older concrete bases can cause deep cracks or uneven settling—signs you may need full asphalt resurfacing. If you notice minor surface cracks or isolated potholes, targeted repairs usually suffice. Watch for pooling water near driveway edges, as this is common in local neighborhoods and may require professional grading or drainage solutions along with paving work.

Helpful?

After completing an asphalt paving project in OH, avoid heavy traffic for 24–48 hours to allow it to cure. Plan to apply a sealcoat 6–12 months later during the summer. Each spring, inspect for winter damage from the freeze-thaw cycle and schedule crack sealing. During winter, use asphalt-safe ice melt products, as rock salt can damage new pavement.

Helpful?

A new asphalt paving project offers immediate and lasting advantages in Youngstown. In the short term, you’ll see enhanced curb appeal, a potential property value increase of 5–10%, and improved vehicle access during harsh winters. Long-term benefits include a 15- to 20-year lifespan with proper care, lower maintenance costs compared to concrete, and better stormwater management for your property.
