"One of the 2 employees from D&B arrived at my house and after I showed him where the leak was, he made the decision right then and there that my home warranty would not cover the costs. At this point, I had already paid $100 for the service call fee and wanted to know my options, including costs out of pocket. He said that he'd call me within 2 days after writing up a summary. A week went by and did not hear anything, but I did get an email informing me that my service request had been closed/resolved and that D&B was paid for their time. Needless to say, I was surprised b/c all they did was come to my house and spend less than 10 minutes. PLEASE DO NOT use these guys--even if your home warranty company uses them, request another company OR pay for a qualified plumber on your own. I do think that this company survives only by collecting service fees from individuals who work through their home warranty companies."

"Wonderful experience with Cloverleaf Mechanical. The first technician Brady, came to tune our furnace and change filter. He was a super nice young man, so respectful and a pleasure to be around. It turned out that we needed a more extensive repair, which was completed the next day, very professional with no issues. I would highly recommend this company. Thank you all for a great job! "

"Super pleased! A/C broke on a weekend, during a heat wave (yuck!). Brad was able to get the issue diagnosed and fixed the same day I called. My experience with the corporate chain I previously used is they send someone out without a lot of experience who likes at it for a few minutes and then tells me I need a new AC. Brad actually talks to you about how the system is behaving, what the symptoms are, then runs some tests before telling you what’s wrong and how to fix it. Super knowledgeable. Thorough. Reasonably priced."

Gas Logs questions, answered by experts

Call 811 to locate and mark the gas lines at least three days before digging. In many areas, you can dig within 18 inches of the lines, though in some locations, the distance may be further. Check local regulations, as you may need a utility company representative onsite when digging. Document your calls to 811 and precautions taken to avoid gas lines. A homeowner can be held liable for hitting a gas line in some cases, but contacting the proper authorities and following all guidelines can offer protection.

This is a matter of personal preference, as each method has its own pros and cons. Oil furnaces are safer, but the smell can be off-putting to some consumers. Oil is also more expensive than gas. However, oil furnaces boast a higher BTU rate per hour, so a smaller amount of oil can heat a larger space when compared to a gas furnace.

In North America, pipe measurements are listed as the nominal pipe size (NPS). This measurement refers to the outside diameter. As an example, a 1/2-inch copper pipe has an outside diameter of 5/8 of an inch. If a hardware store lists a pipe as having a 2 NPS, it means that all the pipes with this measurement have a 2 ⅜-inch outside diameter, regardless of wall thickness and inside diameter.

The biggest disadvantage of propane is that heating systems and appliances powered by propane tend to cost more than gas-powered ones. Propane is also dangerous since it can create frostbite if it touches the skin and can easily combust if mishandled. It’s also quite cumbersome to buy or replace propane tanks, so many people choose to have propane delivered to their homes—an extra cost and logistical challenge that can be a headache.

Yes, flexible tubing and high-efficiency gas lines are options for new installations.
