"The guys showed up on time and ready to get it done. They repaired the area that needed done and painted the ceiling and wall in about 4 hours. I did call them and asked that they come back because I thought that I saw something on the wall. JP explained what happened and 5 minutes later, I was totally happy! My only issue was being charged for a gallon of ceiling paint out of a 5 gallon bucket. I raised this issue with Brian and he adjusted my bill. I explained that customers will not be happy with how he did that part of his business and he said that he would reconsider how he deals with ceiling paint in the future. I'm really happy with the job they did and how quickly and thoroughly they completed the job. I will recommend this company."

"Working with AV remodelers has been a great experience. They are very professional and get the job done in a timely manner. Arthur and his team do a wonderful job and the workmanship is excellent. The communication is great between the customer and Arthur as the work is being completed. Al is wonderful to work with and makes the process go very smoothly. I had my entire bathroom gutted and remodeled and then had then redo my bedroom closet. My husband and I are extremely pleased with both projects and have another estimate on the way for my next project. I highly recommend this company."

"Derik and his crew did a great job on resurfacing our bedroom doors, hardware, and repainting them. They look better than I expected! They also restored our old, heavily painted stair risers and sideboards to prepare for a carpet runner. These, too exceeded my expectations. Uncle D’s price was fair and a lot of work went into this project. I would recommend Uncle D’s painting to anyone!"

"Mike is a very personable home improvement professional. He knows a lot about his profession and has lots of work pics and vids to back that up. He designed the remodel for our entire kitchen and first floor. He also remodeled both out bathrooms choosing much of the materials and cabinets himself and that proved to work out great. We love everything! His contractors are excellent workers - non-nonsense workers that do not waste time. Very good, efficient workers. From cabinets, to hardwood floors, to wall and ceiling repairs/painting including the family room paneling - it was all done very professionally. We will hire Mike for our next project- the bedrooms. We highly recommend Mike/TMAK Restorations"

"Jerry was professional and took the project that others thought it was minor and would not. He delivered my butcher block countertops and refaced my cabinet doors. What a magnificent change to my kitchen. His work is excellent. I would highly recommend this contractor for your cabinet and woodworking."

Closets questions, answered by experts

Yes, adding a built-in or custom closet generally increases your home's value and makes it more attractive to potential buyers. A well-designed closet adds utility, organization, and a touch of luxury, which are appealing selling points. Most homeowners see a return on investment (ROI) of 50% to 60%; for example, a custom closet can add about $1,000 to your home's value on average. The specific ROI depends on the type, with custom walk-in closets typically providing more value than reach-in closets. However, to maximize value, ensure the closet doesn't significantly detract from the room's usable square footage. Converting an entire room into a closet can actually lower your home's value. Similarly, using overly lavish materials may not recoup their cost. A good strategy is to add a closet that takes square footage from a non-living area, such as a garage, to create a mudroom closet.

There are certainly luxury upgrades you can make but you can seriously improve the look and functionality of a closet without spending much money. Color matching will make the closet seem bigger so any shelves painted the same as the wall is a good tip. While pre-made closet organizers may seem expensive they offer an aesthetic look that's hard to achieve with DIY methods. Lastly, removing clutter and unworn items will help the closet seem bigger and cleaner.

Hanging and folding clothes are efficient ways to pack your clothes during a move. When choosing a packing method, consider the type of clothing you’re packing. For example, clothing such as dresses, suits, blouses, and items made of silk and similar fabrics are ideal for hangers. On the other hand, it’s easier to fold pants, shorts, t-shirts, thick sweaters, and more.

You can budget a little less money for how to build a closet with wire shelves than with wood shelves. Some people don’t like the aesthetics that wire shelves provide, though, meaning they’ll gladly spend a little more to add wood shelves to the build. If you decide to buy pre-made wire shelves instead of building custom-sized wood shelves, you’ll be restricted in the closet shelving dimensions you can use.

On average, building a custom or built-in closet costs around $2,100. However, the total price can range from as little as $500 for a simple DIY project to $6,000 or more for a large, high-end custom closet. Most projects typically fall between $1,500 and $5,000.

The final cost depends on several factors, including the closet's size, type, materials, and features. Here is a general cost breakdown by closet type:

  • Reach-in closet: $500 to $1,500

  • Walk-in closet: $750 to $5,000

  • Wardrobe: $2,000 to $6,000 or more

Choosing a prefabricated closet system is generally less expensive than a fully custom build. The scope of design and construction services will also significantly impact the price.
