"I estimate I have just under $100k in electronics and appliances in my house. We have significant lightning storms in my location. To NOT have lightning suppression installed is significant risk in my mind based on my location in New Jersey. RS LIGHTNING PROTECTION was responsive with a quick cost estimate and a reasonable price based on my research for installation. By the way...installation is part art, such as bends in cable are not more than 90 degrees. It's not just about running grounded cables. This installation in conjunction with surge protection on my electrical panel performed by my electrician and cable protection gives me significant piece of mind that all my appliances and electronics are protected from lightning and any potential surge generated by a near strike. Mr Richard Sherlock knows his subject. Highly recommended. Five stars."

"Mr. Jim Gorman who is the owner of the business called me back within a half hour of my email posting. He visited my home 3 days later, inspected things, and told me what the approximate cost would be. He and his helper then installed an entire lightning protection system on both my house and a back garage/storage area. He did things exactly as I wanted in every way. Also threw in a free weathervane which increased the beauty of my home. I would have no objection to recommending this gentleman and his company to anyone who is in need of a competently installed lightning protection system for their home/property. MID-AMERICA LIGHTNING RODS is one fine company run by a man who cares about doing good work according to the latest safety codes etc. Having lost my previous retirement home to lightning, it was very important to me to get this job done and quickly because the thunderstorm season is upon us and with the climate change, those storms are very wicked, especially here out in the country where i live!"

"WB Lightning Rods did an excellent job installing lightening rods on our home. The owner stayed onsite the entire time to supervise the work. He took extra care to plan the rod and cable placement to ensure the proper protection and retain the aesthetics of our home. His crew were knowledgeable, polite, neat and efficient. We could not be more pleased with the results."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Before starting an electrical project in Sidney, review your home’s age and wiring type, as many local homes predate modern codes. Consult a qualified electrician to evaluate your panel’s load, especially if you live in neighborhoods with older infrastructure. Submit permit applications early and plan projects around Sidney’s winter months, when cold weather can slow outdoor work. Always confirm utility access and property lines before scheduling service upgrades.

Helpful?

Sidney offers several types of electrical contractors, including residential specialists for home rewiring and upgrades, commercial electricians for business properties, emergency service providers for urgent repairs, and solar installation experts as renewable energy gains popularity. Choose contractors with proven experience in Sidney, strong local references, proper insurance, and a solid understanding of local building codes and utility requirements.

Helpful?

In Sidney, frequent breaker trips during humid summer storms, persistent flickering lights in multiple rooms, or outlets that feel unusually warm can signal deeper electrical issues. Watch for burning odors, sparking outlets, or discolored wall plates—especially in homes built before 1980, which often have outdated wiring. Ignoring these warning signs can lead to more extensive repairs or safety hazards down the road.

Helpful?

After completing electrical work in Sidney, schedule a final inspection and keep all permits and inspection records for your files. Test new circuits and GFCI outlets—especially important in Sidney’s humid climate. Update your home insurance to reflect improvements, and keep documentation for future reference. Annual electrical inspections are wise, and registering upgrades with Shelby County can help with property tax records or potential rebate eligibility.

Helpful?

To determine if your Sidney home is ready for electrical upgrades, check if your service panel is at least 100 amps and if your wiring is copper rather than aluminum. Homes built after 1990 or those with unfinished basements make upgrades easier. If your property is near the Great Miami River or in a historic district, consider potential moisture issues or preservation guidelines when planning electrical improvements.
