"George and his crew were on time and did a great job. When they left the yard looked the same as it was when they got there. They were about 70 feet tall and crew a great job. Would hire them again in a heartbeat and will again this fall for my Bradford tree in front yard."

"I need several trees trimmed. Bob looked over the work site, made recommendations on what and how to trim the trees, and then got to work once we settled on the work order. He did exactly what he said he was going to do, efficiently, and cleaned everything up before he left the site. He did a great job and I’m hiring him again for similar work."

"I was really pleased with the work I had done from Vancil’s Expert Tree Service! After getting a few quotes from other companies, I thought I wouldn’t be able to afford having my tree trimmed because I was quoted outrageous prices from other companies. A friend recommended this tree service so I gave them a call and they were able to come give me a quote that was significantly lower than the other quotes I had received. The crew came and got the job done the very next day which I was very thankful for because every time we have a storm branches fall in my yard and driveway. Generally, if your neighbor’s tree hangs over your yard, you can legally trim overhanging branches. Keep in mind that you cannot cross your property line to cut the trees, and if you damage the tree by trimming it, your neighbor could sue you. It’s worth noting that the specifics of this type of tree maintenance and the guidelines around it may vary by location. Do your research and, most importantly, consult with your neighbor.

In most cases, leaving tree roots underground is not a problem if the stump has been removed or ground below the soil. However, some larger roots may decompose, leaving dents in your soil. Additionally, some aggressive trees, including willows, oaks, elms, maples, and poplars may grow back from roots. Large aggressive trees with established root systems are more likely to grow back.

A grafted tree is a tree grown by combining two trees. It takes expertise. Branches from grafted trees don’t grow strong roots. Save yourself the time and frustration by having an arborist help you with this advanced project.  

You can often tell if a tree is grafted because it will have a noticeable line. Above the line, the bark will look different than it does below the line. It’s most common with fruit trees.

After a big storm, you may not be sure if a tree was struck or not. Look for the telltale long scars, like strips or gouges in the bark of the tree, running in sometimes jagged lines down the length of the trunk. These scars will often show vulnerable living wood inside the tree. It’s also common to see scorched or wilted leaves on the side or top of the tree where lightning struck.

Late winter is ideal, but if you’re pruning apple trees in the spring, prune them as early as possible in the season. You want to ensure your tree is just creeping out of dormancy and hasn’t started pushing out new growth. If you prune your tree too late into spring, you generally won’t see results until the following year.

That said, there’s no pruning season for unhealthy growth. Remove dead, dying, or diseased branches as soon as you notice them, regardless of the time of year.
