What began as two guys in a 350 square foot office quickly grew to become one of the nation's leading remodeling companies. "BEST CONTRACTOR EVER! The project included an exterior ramp, 1st fl laundry & 1/2 bath near the kitchen. I needed the ramp done 1st for an elderly person being released from physical rehab in under a wk. He worked very hard through the worst days of the smoke from the Canada forest fires. He understood ADA requirements and built accordingly. Plus, he suggested things I hadn't thought of like widening the mudroom doorway for a wheel chair if needed in the future & raising the mudroom floor just a little to keep it level with the kitchen floor. The ramp is very sturdy. The senior is using it with great confidence. The interior revamp went very well & was just what our senior needed. Not only did he have the project done in a timely manner, but while walking through Lowes he noticed a stackable washer & dryer 20% off, unopened box. He texted me & we grabbed it! Dave not only knows the construction business but goes above & beyond what's needed and he has a good heart."

Doors FAQs, answered by experts

When choosing a door for the space between your garage and house, steel is your best bet for fire safety. While wood—and sometimes glass—doors are common, they have lower fire-ratings. Fire-rated steel doors can withstand flames for up to three hours—double what wood can manage (90 minutes). Glass, while non-combustible, can crack under extreme heat. Steel may cost more, but it also offers the best protection. Steel isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing choice, but as long as your door meets the International Residential Code (IRC) standards, it’ll do its job in protecting your family and home.

Yes, prehung doors include a door jamb. Prehung doors are sold as a single piece with the door frame already constructed, including the hinges. The only part missing is the trim, which you add after fastening the door. They are more expensive than slab doors but are quicker and easier to install. Prehung doors come in an array of sizes, so there’s likely an option to fit any doorway you need.

To achieve the correct opening size for a 30-inch door, add 2 inches to the door width and 2 ½ inches to the door height. For example, if you have a 30-inch-wide door with an 80-inch height, then the rough opening would measure 32 inches wide by 82 1/2 inches high

There are a few different reasons why shotgun houses have two separate front doors. Shotgun homes with two front doors are also called double shotgun homes, which can be two individual homes that share a wall. Other reasons include improved ventilation throughout the home and better access to other rooms.

Most slab doors do not have hinge cutouts, making them a complete blank slate. You will have to measure and cut the mortises yourself. You can order a slab door from a home improvement store and ask them to make the cuts, although you still have to take the measurements independently.
