Customers say: Quick response

"Doug came out to give the bid in a timely manner and informed me if he was going to be on time or running early. I was out of town for a funeral when the work was performed but when I returned home I was pleasantly surprised that not only were the stumps removed but the clean up was meticulous and my neighbors were extremely happy as well! Iâ d highly suggest him to remove any tree stumps necessary."

"Michael showed up early on in the process because I had a limb that was split within the tree, and I was concerned that it was about to break out and fall and cause property damage. He and his crew came out right away prior to a storm a couple of days later, (which would have certainly caused the limb to finish breaking within the tree), and got the limbs cut, not just on the tree of concern, but also trees in other parts of my yard. He got them piled up neatly, and removed the piles in short order. Great job, and I highly recommend!"

"We had a great experience with Bark and Board tree service! The crew worked very well together and got our enormous tree down and cleaned up everything for us. We feel the price was fair for the amount of work put into the job. Very friendly crew! We recommend them for your tree cutting needs."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

If tree branches cross well into your property line, in many cases, these branches become part of your property, and you can trim them up until your neighbor’s property line. However, this issue will vary based on local ordinances, so you should do your research before making any decisions. Better yet, speak with your neighbor about how to handle any tree issues.

If you don’t mind the branches, you can leave them be, but if they’re becoming a hazard, it’s definitely worth having a conversation.

A standard tree removal doesn’t include stump grinding. If you want your contractor to remove your tree and grind the stump, you must pay an extra charge. That said, you’ll likely save on the cost of stand-alone service—especially if it’s a small tree and they can finish both jobs in a single trip.

Hiring an arborist costs around $900 on average, with prices ranging from $250 to $2,500 or more. Some arborists charge an hourly rate, typically between $100 and $350 per hour. The final cost depends on several factors, including the type of work, the number of trees, accessibility, and whether you hire an independent arborist or a larger tree service company. When hiring, you should also consider their experience and insurance coverage.

Below are some estimated costs for common arborist jobs:

  • Small tree removal: $300 to $500

  • Large tree removal: $500 to $2,000 or more

  • Tree health assessment: $150

  • Trimming a small tree: $75 to $200

  • Trimming a large tree: $150 to $400

  • Dealing with invasive species: $150 to $1,000 or more

If a tree isn’t pruned, it can inhibit proper growth and fruit production, cause damage to both the tree and your property, and create entry points for pests and diseases. Pruning a tree enhances its stability, appearance, shape, and growth. Pruning trees regularly can also save you money long-term by avoiding overgrown or dangerous dying trees.

While the fastest way to kill a tree is to simply cut it down, there are several other methods to choose from. You should hire a professional tree removal service to cut down a tree to ensure your personal and property safety. Some slower but effective options include treating or grinding the tree stump or using a basal bark treatment.
