"I love, love, love my shower. My house is older, built in '59. It had an old, horrible tub/shower unit in a very small bathroom. Jacob removed without a scratch to the rest of the room. When all was installed, mess was cleaned up and bathroom and shower ready to use. Install went great, tackling unplumb walls and getting a good seal. Shored up the floor where water had weakened the sub-floor. And went the extra and got me a rain shower head. First Call Plumber has helped with a several issues and installs. I have been very happy with all. Jacob is friendly, reliable and very competent. I highly recommend and will be using First Call Plumber for any future needs."

"After having a complete system installed over 10 years ago. I had an Issue with water coming in thru a basement window. Thinking I was going to have a confrontation getting it fixed I was pleasantly surprised when Tim said they would replace my outside window well. Tony and Corey had job completed in less than a day. Tim and crew are top notch."

"Philip and his sons have been working on a bath remodel for approximately the last three weeks at our house. One bath project turned into two during the course of the construction. Phil is very meticulous about making sure every aspect of the job is up to his exacting standards and he fixed things along the way which were not part of the original contract but which needed to be addressed. Phil and his sons Tom and Dylan perform every aspect of the job: Plumbing, electrical, HVAC, drywall, flooring, demo. Phil's sons were respectful of our property, very polite and a pleasure to have around the house over the course of an extended project. They painstakingly cleaned up after each day's work. After abortive attempts to hire a remodeling professional to do our bathrooms we were frankly glad to finally find Phil and his sons. Phil is a man of his word and doesn't play games once the project is underway. He stayed at it until the job was completed and there were no surprise up charges at the end. We will definitely hire Handi Built in the future."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

If you notice water dripping from your bathroom fan, you likely have an accumulation of condensation. The fan pulls warm, wet air from your bathroom and into the attic. However, if the water accumulates as condensation over time, it can begin to drip back out of your bathroom fan. It’s important to take action quickly to prevent mold growth and water damage.

Depending on the location of the water leak, it could go undetected for weeks, months, or even years in some extreme cases. Most homeowners who have plumbing leaks have slow drips, so you might not see signs of damage until they become severe problems. It’s a good idea to have a plumbing inspection done annually and to take steps yourself to check for leaks, including inspecting your floor, walls, and ceilings for signs of water damage, monitoring your utility bills, and looking for water around appliances and fixtures.

You should check water pressure twice a year to ensure there aren’t any irregularities and that it isn’t too high. It’s also smart to check it any time you notice symptoms of high water pressure (like banging pipes, inconsistent water flow, and leaky fixtures). Similarly, if you live in an area that’s prone to water pressure fluctuations due to municipal supply changes, elevation, or seasonal temperature shifts, check it more frequently. You can buy an affordable water pressure gauge and check the water pressure yourself.

The first rule of plumbing is nothing but water, toilet paper, number one, and number two go down the drain.

To prevent clogs, get yourself:

  • A compast pail where you can clean plates, drain grease, and toss scraps and paper towels.

  • Drain screens for the shower, tub, and bathroom sink to stop hair, jewelry, toys, etc. from going down the drain.

  • Trash cans for everything that shouldn’t go down the drain, like dental floss, hygiene products, and cat litter.

P.S.: If you do drop your priceless ring down the drain, take a deep breath, and then follow these steps to retrieve jewelry from your drain.

Repairing a bathroom leak costs an average of $280, but shower and tub leaks can cost up to $500, depending on the issue. Ongoing leaks behind or under your tub can lead to mold growth, wood rot, and hidden water damage in your bathroom, so if your leak has been going on for a while, you could pay several thousand dollars to remove the tub and address the damage underneath.
