"Joe from JMS Drain Services was my service technician who arrived well within the window scheduled service time. Never pour used motor oil down the drain. Doing so can have serious environmental consequences, including contaminating groundwater, endangering animals, and killing vegetation. It can also clog your pipes, causing backups in your plumbing or the wastewater treatment plant. In most places, pouring motor oil down the drain is illegal, whether you do it in your home or a storm drain.

While the drain connection for a garbage disposal is nearly universal and fits standard sink drain holes of 3 1/2 to 4 inches, the size of the disposal unit itself is not. You must have enough space in the cabinet underneath your sink to accommodate the disposal's housing. A larger model may not fit in a compact cabinet or if the existing plumbing is arranged in an unusual way. Before buying a new garbage disposal, measure the available space under your sink. If you are replacing an old unit, it's often easiest to choose a new model of a similar size.

Replacing the countertop with another that fits the same size and cut out shouldn't take longer than four to five hours. The installation job entails removing the plumbing connections, unscrewing the old sink connectors, removing the countertop, placing and gluing the new countertop, and connecting the plumbing hookups.

Depending on the issue, you have a good shot at fixing a leaking sink yourself. If you have some plumbing experience or are comfortable with DIY jobs, you can clean the P trap, tighten nuts, replace washers, and replace shut-off valve stems on your own. For more complicated jobs, such as repairing a garbage disposal, calling a pro may be the way to go.
