Protecting homes and businesses since 1950, Guardian Protection is one of the nation's largest and most highly regarded security companies. We provide smart technology, 24/7 professional monitoring, and peace of mind to hundreds of thousands of customers. Our products are installed by experts, monitored by real people, and truly make a difference. We do what we do because of one simple truth: life is better when it's safe.

"We hired Guardian to install our security system at our Washington, DC, business. The service and quality of the work was horrible. We had cameras and an alarm system installed; it was a relatively large system. They outsource most of the work to various vendors. They could not manage their vendors; what was supposed to take a week took two months. The sales rep did not return calls, and you could never get anyone in management on the phone. Random people would show up at unannounced times. The few things that an actual Guardian employee did were they made a huge mess of our newly remodeled office and were rude to our staff. We have offices in five markets across the US and have high security at each; we have never had such a poor experience."

"It was necessary to install a second set of windows for three of the five replacements, Aaron who works for Xenia Glass and Lock checked all the windows the day after the installation and took videos and photos of the windows in question. His work indicated that three of the five window were defective. The young men , Kolton and Hunter Fox completed the project for Xenia Glass and Lock by replacing the ones that were not working properly. Kolton was helpful by explaining how to open/close and clean the windows. He was also helpful in the adjusting blinds for me. "

Dave’s Handyman Service is a family and Veteran owned and operated local business with over 15 years of industry experience. I opened Dave’s Handyman Service because I take pride in working with my hands and seeing the finished results for my customers. The reason I opened my own handyman service is because being a small company allows me to be at every job, give personal attention to my customers, and have the flexibility to adjust the scope of work based on my customer’s needs without needing to “bring it up the chain”. As a Veteran, I am a self-started and take pride in everything that I do for my customers. I am invested 100% in my customer’s success and happiness. When you hire me for your handyman needs, you are getting personal attention. I am not an hourly worker who moves from job to job, not caring about what happened yesterday. I care about each and every one of my customers. Angie’s List members can feel confident in hiring Dave’s Handyman Service because I treat your home as if it is my own. I am honest, thorough, and accurate in my estimates. I believe that Dave’s Handyman Service is a great company for Angie’s List Members because I am well known for my quality of work and respect of my customers’ homes. I would love the opportunity to partner with you and your home improvement needs.

"I had him service my garage door. One month later, it stopped working. I called him and set up an appointment to come back and fix it. He never showed up or called to cancel. Poor customer service. (If you don't know how to fix something, just be honest instead of ghosting the customer.)"

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

In general, keyless door locks are considered safe. They can’t be picked like a traditional lock, and unless a thief can guess your code, it’s pretty tricky to break into a house with a keyless door lock. But that doesn’t mean they come without risk.

When asking yourself, "Are keyless door locks safe?” consider the style of the system. Hackers could potentially break in if it operates on Wi-Fi, but it’d take some time and effort. You’re also at risk for a power outage, depending on the type of lock. That being said, there are no more risks associated with keyless door locks than a traditional lock.

Door locks should be changed roughly every seven years. The average lifespan of a door lock is seven to 10 years, so it’s best to err on the side of caution and change them early, especially if they are showing signs of wear and tear. Examples of deterioration include visible rust and difficulty opening or closing the door. Some locks can work safely beyond 10 years, but it depends on how often they are used and whether they are exposed to damaging environmental conditions like precipitation or extreme temperatures.

You can cut a door knob off using a sawzall, but you risk causing additional damage to the door itself. You’ll also need to completely replace the door knob, costing you extra money and another trip to the hardware store.

It depends on the quality of the keyless lock and usage, but in general, you can expect a keyless lock to last around three to five years. The batteries typically last around six to 12 months. The good news is most keyless locks include a low battery indicator so you can receive ample warning if your battery is about to die.

Rekeying your own locks is a low-cost task that prevents you from having to replace the locks themselves completely. The first couple of times you rekey a lock may be challenging because this is an intermediate DIY task. You can purchase a rekey kit from most hardware stores, but make sure you’re buying the kit from the brand of lock in your home that you’re going to rekey.
