"Patterson Masonary did an excellent job in a timely manner. Both men were polite and very conscientious. I would use them again and tell anyone to use them. The work was excellent and the price was fair."

"They did a great job on the foundation repair adding 8 push piers and successfully moving the foundation back into place. However, in their rush they put a hole in the back of my house with the backhoe and it took them almost 6 months to repair and repaint the damage. I still recommend them since they were the only ones with the correct foundation fix."

"Armondo and his crew replaced two landscaped areas in and around the driveway with concrete. We are extremely pleased with their work and the result. It is exactly what we wanted. If we ever need concrete again we will be calling them."

"The techs did a great job, and once I alerted them to my flower beds directly in front of the porch to be lifted, were very careful not to damage my emerging hostas. I'd definitely recommend Acculevel and already have to my sister for her patio/parking spot."

"Brian/& Beast were very polite & professional. Quality soil & mulch. They did a very nice job, mounding up the back & a side area of my vacant lot. planted 50+ arborvitaes. Then mulched the mound of arborvitaes. Also had him bring me an extra load of mulch for a project my Son & I was doing on the boulevard. Looks beautiful. ? Thank you!"

Customers say: Terrific value

"Apex custom is a very excellent company. First of all, Mark an owner is very easy to work with. His word is good. No false promises are ever given. Scheduling the work with him was seamless. Mark and his crew would show up and do the work every day until the job was completed. I never had to call them back simply to finish the work. It was completed when he said they were done. Secondly, every person working in the company is very professional. All of the workers are polite, clean and respectful of your property while they are doing the job. All messes are cleaned up after each day of work. Finally, the end result is magnificent! We had a large amount of brick work, stone work and uniquely designed patio walls and stone work done. It looks so professionally done. We kept waiting for Home and Garden TV to call us to do an expose on our patio work because it looks so beautiful. I highly recommend Apex Custom A+ for your home concrete, brick, stone or unique outdoor patio creation. In fact, I am now in contract with them for another outdoor project. Regards, Patrick Waters, Marblehead, Ohio"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is essential to prime or seal a brick fireplace before painting. Brick is a porous and highly absorbent material, so without a primer, paint can seep into the surface, resulting in uneven coverage and allowing the natural brick color to show through. To avoid this, apply one or two coats of a masonry primer. The primer will seal the brick and provide a smooth, uniform layer for the paint to adhere to. Ensure the primer is completely dry before applying the topcoat of paint.

You can turn a red brick white through a process called whitewashing. Whitewash isn’t a stain but rather is made from water and white latex paint. Adding more water to the mix will make the solution look lighter when applied, and adding more paint will make it look more white.

Real stone is exactly what it sounds like: It’s real stone sourced from the earth without additives. It is durable and unique, but it’s difficult to work with because of its weight, challenge in sourcing, and high cost. Stone veneer mimics the look of real stone but is actually engineered with a mixture of Portland cement, natural minerals, and a colorant. While it’s more affordable and easier to work with, it’s less durable and may appear manufactured to the trained eye.

Cobblestone can be made from many different types of stones but the most common ones, by far, are granite, basalt, limestone, and sandstone.  If you are laying a brick paver patio or other such project, the medium is different. It’s rare, but cobblestone can also be made from marble, slate, jasper, and other types of rock. Technically, you can make cobblestone from almost any type of rock, but if it is weather-resistant and stands the test of time is another question entirely.

Yes, you can cut patio stones with a circular saw. Similar to using an electric grinder, you will need to use a diamond blade as this is the most effective blade for cutting a material like stone. The stone must be wet when using a circular saw to ensure the cut is smooth.
