"Services: Unclog drain, Repair toilet, Repair pipe. // Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness // Haines was recommended to me saying they were good at their job. I called them Monday, Feb 15th about a clogged drain, they came out Tues Feb 16th at the time I was told they would be there, which was great! They were there from 3:30 pm to 6:50 pm. Some repairs had to be made to the laundry tub drain and my toilet had to be lifted so they could access that portion of the drain. After the toilet was replaced, the shut-off valve leaked, so I asked them to replace that also. The work that was done created quite a mess... BUT, when they were finished you would never know that. Everything was cleaned up so well and disinfected, it looked nice and smelled nice. The workmen were very professional and knowledgeable about their job. I will add this company to my contacts as a reliable source for repairs."

"Brian contacted me shortly after I placed my request with Angi. As my hot water tank was leaking, he said he could take care of things right away. He and his assistant installed a new water tank, removed the old tank and showed me how to operate everything. I would happily hire him again for any plumbing issues. His price was also very reasonable."

"Mike is the finest contractor I ever had. Faced with the daunting task of installing a message steam shower and remodelling the bathroom, he planned, sequenced and completed the work on time and within budget, a true house engineer. I particularly noted his choice of quality material and the precision of his work but noteabably, was his fantastic painting he did ... a true artist. He let us know iof his activity and saught approval each step of the project. He texted his arrival time, even when buying supplies, or delayed; he always arrived on schedule. Finally he cleaned up ... totally a very satisfying experience. I already hired him again for other plumbing maintanance."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Most of the time, the answer is yes, but with an enormous asterisk. While an increase in iron deposits isn’t likely to harm you if consumed, that doesn’t mean you should drink any brown water from your faucets. In our book, it’s better to be safe than sorry and opt for bottled until the issue is resolved.

Yes, you can change a bathtub faucet without changing the valve, as long as the new faucet is compatible with your existing valve system. Most manufacturers design their faucet trims (handles and spouts) to work with their standard valve bodies. However, you'll need to match the new faucet to your valve type, whether it's a compression, cartridge, or ball-type valve. Mixing brands can be problematic, but you can bring your old faucet parts to the hardware store and ask about compatibility.

The most common situation in which you should turn off the main water shut-off valve is if there’s a leak in your home, such as in the kitchen or bathroom. Turning off the water supply can prevent further water damage.

You may want to turn off the valve before leaving for an extended period, in case of leaks or pipe bursts while you’re gone. If you’re going to work on plumbing fixtures or appliances, it’s also a good idea to shut off the main valve to ensure no water flow during repairs or installation.

A standard toilet flange should fit snugly into the outflow pipe and sit level with the subfloor. Installing a new one without first removing the old one will make it impossible to form a seal and keep the toilet bowl bolted securely in place.

However, if you’re dealing with leakage or wobbling because you’ve installed a new type of bathroom tile (making the floor taller), you may be able to avoid fully replacing the flange by opting for a toilet flange extender. Extenders typically come in kits for easy DIY installation, fit over the existing flange, and bring the drain connection higher.

Sometimes when a pipe bursts in a house, it makes a clang or popping noise; however, that doesn’t mean you’ll hear it. Newer pipes tend to be quieter than older pipes. Plus, a pipe can easily burst out of earshot, especially if it’s a floor or two away from you.

If you do hear an unusual popping noise, consider hiring a plumber to inspect your pipes. Most of the time, you’re more likely to notice a burst pipe either from a visible leak or because water won’t run out of your tap properly.
