Had water leaking from a buried sprinkler valve. A Vanderwist tech responded. He dug up the valve and claimed he had repaired it. He then explained to me that the valve had roots growing into it and that the valve may need to be replaced in the future. He did not offer me the option of replacing the valve prior to doing repair work. Within one week the valve was leaking again. The same technician came out a week later. Again he performed the repair before telling me what the problem was. This time he claimed other valves at the same location needed repair. He did not state the valves needed to be replaced. Within another week the zone controlled by the first repaired valve began running constantly. I called Vanderwist and they told me that they would need to replace all four valves. I noted that I had already paid $290 and that I should receive credit for what I had paid that had not solved the problem. They claimed the technician had recommended to me that the valves be replaced and only offered to credit me for one hour of labor. That was simply not true. Both times the tech performed the repairs without making any recommendation and had only noted the valves may need replacement at some time in the future. The Vanderwist official I spoke with said she would relay my concerns to a higher official who would call me. It's been two weeks and I've received no such call. I have since contacted another company who advised that they could replace all four valves for under $300 in parts and labor. I used Vanderwist for 15 years but won't be using again.

I do want to apologize for the miscommunication on my part personally. I was left with the message that you had terminated the relationship with Vanderwist, had cancelled your winterization appointment, and the intent was you were finding another contractor. I was unaware you were waiting for additional response from us. I have looked into this matter even further after you posting this review and feel that we are still at an impasse. The first visit and second visit serviced different valves. I have the notes from the tech at your service call "Two more valves in the same cluster of 4 valves where I previously flushed one out was also infested with roots. I disassembled and cleaned out the three remaining valves. Main tight at 72 psi. I also mentioned to customer that it would be wise to replace valves and cause of how they are piped in between roots of tree, that all 4 should be replaced at the same time when any future issues with those valves are happening and they are far out dated (old). Paid check #xxxx amount $157.50". These notes are talk to text from tablets in the field. I'm sorry you feel you were not properly advised. My husband and I have been doing some major renovations in our backyard (pool, travertine, landscaping, etc.) and of all the companies that we have done business with, Vanderwist is by far the very BEST! They do exceptional work and very professional. There men were here for 10 hrs. working non-stop making sure that everything was correct. I would highly recommend them to anyone. They installed our lighting in the front of our home a year ago and its great. We would never ever use anyone else but Vanderwist! Donovin and his whole family are very sweet and helpful.

We asked them to come out in July to fix a leak. We noticed a large amount of water being picked up by our sub pump. After waiting all day for our morning appointment someone finally showed up around 3. The technician came out looked at our yard and told me we have an underground spring. He never even turned on the system. We received a letter from the water company that we were using a large amount of water, so I turned off the system. The leak stopped after the system was turned off. Vanderwist sent us a bill for this and we responded back. They took the charges off and scheduled another visit for October. This technician also did not turn on the system but winterized it without even looking for the problem. He was in such a hurry I doubt that it was done correctly. Will no longer use them or recommend them.

I guess this is sign of the times. its also important to note [Member Name Removed] we DID exactly what you asked us to do and wrote down notes to where the leak was but you ask us to TURN OFF THE SYSTEM. We did just that. We also called you several times to try to repair the leak prior to winterization. You did not return the call and then asked us just to fix it in the spring. . I will remove you from our customer list as requested.

I contacted them to schedule an irrigation and electrical projects. I was told I needed to sign a work agreement first. She faced it to me and I sent back. A week later I had not heard anything. I called and she said she had called but she misread my phone number on the paperwork I had sent back. We scheduled the appointment with an approximate time the technician would arrive. This morning, the day of the appointment, I received a call that the technician was sick and they needed to reschedule. This lead to a discussion about two weeks out being too long. But finally agreed to her date, but since it was not a morning appointment she could not give me a time when the technician would come out. Not even a window of time. Customer service was lacking. I would not recommend this company.

[member name removed]: I am sorry you had to wait to get into our schedule, however we did not install your system either your lighting or irrigation, and therefore, when accepting new customers, we do provide them with service contracts. Dates are on a first come first serve basis, and at this time of year, we are often booked. Your behavior when we called you to reschedule was most unpleasant. You yelled at my office admin (I could hear you from my desk) who had called first thing in the morning to tell you of the tech's absence, and you wouldn't listen to her long enough for her to assist you. You were demanding and demeaning. It's important to note that out of the six people we had to reschedule that day, you were the only one who was rude and angry. It's also important to note you were offered a cancellation date, it was unacceptable to you. However, all of our customers who were inconvenienced by our employee's absence, have already been completed. Sadly I cannot control my employee's health, nor my customer's behavior. Looks like choosing another company to perform your services will be a win/win for both of us.

After assessing the problems, Jason explained the repairs required and began his work. Jason completed the repairs in a timely manner and explained the charges for the service call.

I have been using this company for several years with no problems until recently. The quality of their work has always been good, but we have recently had a bad billing experience. The employee comes out punctually to perform the work. I ask him the cost and he tells me $85 for an 18 zone sprinkler system. He does the work, I give him the check, he gives me a receipt, and all should be done... Several weeks later I get an invoice from their company for a higher amount. I called them to see why this occurred. The person on the phone tells me that the work done is actually now a higher price from what I was quoted, the employee charged me too low of an amount, and I now have to pay an additional amount. Keep in mind I have a receipt saying 18 zones for $85 and payment complete. I am not sure what the going rate for this service is, but charging me one price and then changing the price after the work is done is not cool...

Your rate was the $95 but in all honesty, if I would have been questioned by my staff, I probably would have just asked them to inform you for future knowledge, but I would not have made you pay it as it was his mistake. The cost for zone 13 - 24 is $95 and has been for some time. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Fine. It was difficult to get an appointment, it took many weeks. I had to replace a back flow valve a few months back. I thinkVanderwist damaged it, and I was not happy with the situation. It was very costly for me.

You did have appointments in June trying to repair your backflow and in the end it was replaced. They disappointed me. In the past we have found them to be very good at what they do. However, in recent months their service has fallen off badly. They seem to have experienced considerable turnover in personnel. The crew performing the work was under-trained. They did a sloppy job. The failed to align the sprinkler heads to avoid spraying the driveway and street. I called to complain, but I was unable to reach anyone but the receptionist. Subsequent calls reached a recorder but no human being.

Really Member, a receptionist. You spoke with the service admin who was responsive to your problem. In todays economy we are unable to hire office personnel so at peak periods, we do use voice mail system so we dont have to raise our rates to the customer. We completed your spring activation in April and you had us out for broken heads and adjustments in early June. All employees you had on site were experienced and if they didnt meet your expectations you should have discussed this point with them as you are suppose to be on site while we are working to ensure quality communication. I believe, due to the drought, adjustments may have to be needed at times however we certainly cannot be responsible for a broken heads. I am sorry we cannot meet your expectations, and will remove you from our customer list.

I contacted the company by telephone in early April to setup spring turn on. They said they would call back later that day. Never heard back. Given the excellent reviews here, thought I would give them another try. Called on May 23. Tiffany said I need to sign a contract with them before they schedule the service and sent me the contract by email. She said she would call me as soon as I sent the contract back. I told her I would have it back to her right away. I returned the signed contract by email within minutes requesting a call back to setup the turn on. Never heard from them again.

Vanderwist installed our irrigation system in 2008 when our house was built. Since then they have done the winter shut down and spring start up every year. This is the first repair I have needed. They arrived right on time, as usual, worked very quickly and did a great job. Of the various contractors used by our builder, Vanderwist, by far, has been the most responsive and professional to deal with. There are probably less expensive irrigation companies to deal with, but like everything else - you get what you pay for. I highly recommend them for installation or service.

I called this company to get lawn irrigation service. I was quoted a vague price over the phone and was told that I would have to sign a contract. They mailed a contract a few days late without a firm quote, no return envelope for the contract and no address or phone number on the contract. I had to look up their phone number to call for an address to mail the contract to. I called on Friday April 6th and the phone rang and rang. No one answered. I again tried to call on April 10th and was put on hold saying they were helping other people. I waited 10 minutes and they hung up on me. I called back only to get a recorded message that the office was closed. This was about 430 in the afternoon. This company is a hassle and not worth the effort. I'll call a different company that actually appreciates my business. They have terrible service.

The service was done very well. The technician showed up when scheduled and worked diligently. He was very knowledgeable.

Description of Work
We recently moved into our present house. The irrigation system wasn't turned on. In fact, the backflow preventer was missing. I bought a backflow preventer at a local store, then had Vanderwist come out. They installed the meter on my system, replaced one malfunctioning sprinkler, and replaced a solenoid on another of the sprinklers. They also got the system up and running and reviewed with me where the different zones were.

I needed a new irrigation company and found Vanderwist in Angie's list. I chose first by location but found them very professional on the phone. Made an appointment to do a winter shut down. All went very well. I am planed on using them for my spring start up which I did as stated above.up.

Description of Work
Winter shut down was 95.00. I called them back in the spring to open the system and found some small issues. The worker stayed after daylight to complete the job. I felt the price was fair at approximately $275.00. The people are always professional and helpful on the phone. It does seem a little bit difficult to book an appointment within a few days of calling.

They accomplished all the work in approximately two days. They were very careful not to disturb any existing utility lines, drain lines, walkways, or landscaping. They cleaned up all the work areas and restored the lawn and beds to their original condition. Within one week you could not tell that the lawn and beds had been disturbed. In the one year since the installation the lawn and beds look better than ever and numerous strangers have stopped to comment on how well it looks.

Description of Work
Installed a 15 zone irrigation system covering the entire front and back yard and all the beds around the house and around the perimeter of the back yard. In addition they ran three conduits from the house to various parts of the back yard to accommodate wiring which I installed for landscape lighting. I have had two small problems with the system in the one year we have had it and they came out promptly and fixed them.

Project went well. Overall project took 2 days to complete. The crew arrived at 9:00 am and marked out the location of heads and pipe runs, started pulling pipe (they pull pipe with a vibratory plow and do not trench the yard), and installing the spray heads and rotors. By the end of the first day the majority of the yard was done and they watered, hand tamped, and drove the plow over the slices to repair the slits. The second day, a smaller crew arrived and finished the side yard, installed the piping and heads in the gardens, made the plumbing hookup and the controller installation. At the end of the day, they adjusted the heads, programmed the controller, and walked through the install. All in all, my yard looks to be in better shape after the installation than some of the other installs I have seen in my neighborhood. You can't even tell they dug up our bedding areas.

They continued to bill us for items that should not have been billed. We repeatedly called about over billing and no one but the owner could make a decision, and he would not engage.

It was a good experience. The first interaction with Chip was great. He made us understand what are the things we had to do work by ourself, & how much time & effort is required from us. He did not discourage me, but warned me that it is not as simple as it looked. He was right on that. The pipes were laid by Bill on day 1 & then by Donovan on day 2. Both of them were excellent to work with & very knowledgeable. Their work ethic was great. Whenever I had any doubts or questions, I could call their office & got responses promptly. When I ran out of some part they supplied them immediately. While it did involve a lot of work from my side, I did understand the way my system works now & am more confident to fix it if any problems come up.

We installed our lawn sprinkler using their "do it with us" plan. Chip gave an exact description of the work from their side & what I will have to do. They designed the system, installed the PVC pipes, & showed how to install valves. They supplied all the material for the work including the valves, spray heads, & controller. We had to install the sprinkler heads, valves, & the controller. It took a month for me to complete it.
